ANNOUNCEMENT - NEW CHANNEL LAUNCH + NEW VIDEO

I'm proud to announce the launch of my new gaming channel: Saberspark 64! Been working on this for a while now alongside my friend Tom. He's an uber gamer nerd and we thought this would be the perfect way to deliver on gaming topics without derailing the main channel. This will be a fun experiment and I'm super excited to see where it goes! If you have any feedback or ideas, please fire away!

Perfect Dark pause music at Part 3... good choice.

Even as gaming has grudgingly been accepted as an art- and story-telling form, the money-grubbing mechanics invented in the mobile market have often served to make it less of both. The specter of "grind" has invaded a lot of game design, padding out custom content with repetitive tasks and randomly-generated encounters, even in games that don't have (or later removed) the actual real-money in-game markets that tied into them. A lot of players expect games to be of a certain length, even if that length is filled with filler that was designed to make the player want to skip it. I try not to begrudge the mobile market too much, even as I mostly use it to play mobile versions of board and card games, paying two dollars here and five there for ownership and avoiding "freemium" games like the plague. Even there, there have been some disappointments, with apps that update and suddenly demand internet access so they can hawk expansions and new content.

idk Among us has hats and suits you can buy for like 3 dollars. it's not pay to win though. i remember when i played Animal Crossing Camping whatever and realized that you pretty much have to buy to be able to play any of the events they have effectively or sink a lot of time into the game just sitting there. Bakery Story has a lot of that stuff too.

I would love to see you guys play terrible games and review them as you play!

I remember back when you first mentioned the Saberspark 64 channel earlier this year on one of your Twitch streams. I had been subscribed to that channel since you created it, and I had been a bit curious when it was going to be officially up and running. You can imagine my surprise when I checked my YouTube subscriptions and saw that several videos had just gone live on the Saberspark 64 channel! One big video from you plus three smaller ones from Tommy...all on one exciting new channel! It's a glorious new chapter for you, and I would be happy to take a little time to express my feelings about the new channel and its first few videos. Let's start with the main event: What's RUINING Mobile Games? Personally, I tend not to play mobile games-I often turn to my Switch for my gaming needs-but I know how they have gone downhill for so many reasons: microtransactions, lootboxes, overexposure...it's gotten out of hand, that's for darn sure. Given how such scummy tactics have resulted in the developers of mobile games becoming filthy rich, they're clearly not going to become a thing of the past anytime soon, and even my beloved Nintendo has resorted to microtransactions and the like for their mobile games (though one of those games-Dr. Mario World-will be closing down later this year). It's fascinating to see the rise-and the ruination-of mobile games, and I daresay that this video makes for a great companion piece to your upcoming video on mobile game ads and how YouTube keeps pushing ads with the type of content that gets ordinary content creators in hot water. I look forward to seeing that video when it comes our way. Oh, and how could I not mention how your avatar has been given a Nintendo 64-style makeover? It looks like it was ripped straight out of an actual N64 game, which makes me wish we could play as you in an N64-style game. The fact that this new avatar uses actual animation to switch to the various classic poses is an added plus, and said poses translate quite well to the N64-ized avatar. Even the bubbles in the background have been given the N64-style treatment, which is a rather nice touch. Props to whomever designed your new avatar and background...I'm sure we'll see plenty more of it soon! I also watched the other videos on the channel with Tommy...his N64-style avatar is also pretty neat, and his videos, while shorter, were no less fascinating. I guess his videos for the channel-at least the first few-could be considered this channel's equivalent of the Video Essay or even the Quick Vids, but as this channel is just starting out, we'll have to see what else it can offer. As for ideas, I think I will generally save them for posting on the subreddit, but some potential future video ideas could include What RUINED the Toys-to-Life genre (Skylanders, Lego Dimensions, etc), What's RUINING EA, a What the HELL is...type series dedicated to bad and/or obscure games, and maybe a Quick Vid-style series where you and/or Tommy give a brief review of a game that either or both of you have been enjoying lately. These are just a few ideas to consider, but I'll leave it up to you to decide what other types of videos you'd like to make for the channel in between the big videos on the main channel. Thanks for kicking off this new era of your YouTube career in style, Saber. I look forward to seeing more from the Saberspark 64 channel in the future. Take care! =)
