Mansions, Manors & Palaces

Shinden Zukuri Estate

During his time in Katamori’s dungeons, Takano learned that one of the key members of the Emperor’s retinue is currently residing in his country estate rather than in the capital, his chief advisor Matsura Chikamoto.

The estate is only a few days' ride by horse, and Takano is keen to legitimize the town’s dismantling of Katamori’s leadership. He hopes to be able to do this by negotiation, but he has also seen the effectiveness of force and if it comes to that he needs to strike while the townsfolk are still behind him.

He suggests sending a small, somewhat neutral party ahead to scout the location and get a feel for Chikamoto’s leanings on the matter.

Lagoon Palace Festival Gardens

Following the audience with the Prime Warden you are all invited to relax and enjoy a banquet dinner in the festival gardens. The air is warm and wet, but not uncomfortably so. Strong sweet floral scents fill the air and you are led to a lounging chair that overlooks the lagoon. Drinks, treats and substances of all varieties are passed around as the group of colourful individuals around you grows.

At some point in the evening tables appear and a feast is laid out, dishes appearing and empty plates disappearing as if by magic. Much of the rest of the night is a blur, and when you awaken in the morning it is hard to separate dream from memory.

Into the Wilds

Rural 05 Complete Bundle

This months Into the Wilds theme is Rural as voted for by Adventurer tier Patrons:

Farmland
The road into any town or village is invariably lined with farmland and fields, so much so that many travellers unconsciously let their guard down once the tall stalks of wheat and corn line their flanks, knowing that civilisation and relative safety is nearby. This is a mistake.

River Ford
The main road has a wide stone bridge that crosses the river, but it adds a good half mile to the journey each way. Some of the narrower points can be crossed fairly easily, although they lack the safety of being on the well trodden path.

Coastal Path
The road winds down the coast offering glorious views over the ocean. In places there are steps or sloped paths down to the beach. Don't stay too long though, as the rising tide covers much of the sand stranding any who tarry.

Plains Inselberg
There are great open swathes of the countryside that used to be underwater. Now these plains are covered in a sea of long grasses that simulate waves in the wind. They are broken only by the occasional rocky inselbergs that would once have poked their heads above the waterline.

Beard & Barrels Brewery Interior Scene

The Beard & Barrels Brewhouse is run by four Dwarf sisters, Helga, Bolga, Frieda and Carmine. The quality of their ale is matched only by the luxuriousness of their beards (the secret is washing them with beer!) Whether your poison of choice is Ale, Mead or hard liquor, all are welcome to stop by for a pint. Just don't try to keep up with the proprietors, they have been known to drink Giants under the table, especially Carmine, the petite (for a dwarf) youngest sister.

If you're looking to make coin instead of spend it, the four women could use some help clearing out the rat problem in the basement. Of course, they have no problem squashing the odd rodent themselves, but these rats seem to be surprisingly well organised...

Castle Characters, Part 1

Moren Reiyn - Clad in ornate robes of black silk trimmed with gold filigree, Moren's ensemble is adorned with dozens of gemstones that pulse with an inner light. Her face remains hidden behind an elaborate golden mask inlaid with dark crystals, though her piercing gaze is visible through its eye slits. From a delicate chain, she carries an ornate bronze censer that trails wisps of sickly-sweet incense—a tool that masks the acrid scent of her more unsavory experiments while simultaneously serving as a focus for her necromantic spells. Her voice is eerily melodious, and she speaks with calculated precision, every word carefully chosen.

Greth Vergash - The Vargash Orc clan have lived in the mountains for generations. Although not the largest of tribes, they have out-survived many larger groups through their patience and cunning. Outsiders often view Orcs as mindless beasts who only crave blood and death, and while this may be the case with some of the more warlike tribes, the Vargash Orcs are as varied and complex as any group of individuals.

Jalr Ingsbrand Verndari - Jarl Ingsbrand Verndari is at her wits end. Bandits have been roving closer and closer to the settlement from inland, while a rival clan from along the headland has been making moves to take territory. On top of a poor harvest and sickness sweeping through her people, she has too many fires to manage. While deep down she hopes that the being of light will make an appearance and solve her problems, she knows she cannot rely on it.

The humble mushroom can be a powerful ally if used in the right proportions. This hat is crafted from the oversized head of a bloomcap mushroom. These fungi are known to grow deep in boggy jungles where their root systems can stretch on for miles, warning them of intruders who might be approaching. So adept are they at detecting approaching threats, that someone saw fit to magically preserve and enchant one for their own purposes.
