This is the Free version of this months 'Into The Wilds' maps bundle. The Into the Wilds maps are intended to be simpler & more generic than my regular sets and are perfect to drop in for random encounters when on the road or for when the party takes an unexpected turn and you want to be prepared!
Patrons voted for this months maps to be 'Rural' themed. The bundle includes day, night and rain variants of:
Ambush - The path sinks down between two outcrops for 100ft or so, experienced adventurers will recognise the danger in this and go around, but newer more naive travellers, or those burdened by carts or beasts of burden may pass through.
The Crossroads - Marks a point where two or more groups are likely to meet, and where decisions must be made. Simple choices like which path to take, or who to travel with, may have world shattering consequences later on.
Fisherman's Hut - The lone fisherman's hut sits on the edge of a vast lake. There are fish drying on the racks, fresh firewood is cut and ready to store and the boat is tied up at the dock. So where is the fisherman?
The River - The quickest way to the next town is to cut across the fields, but you'll have to make your way across the river. There should be an old rope bridge, but the storms can lead to flash floods, and the river is fast flowing, so it's a 50/50 chance whether it will still be there.
The Road - Most 'main roads' throughout the lands are little more than well worn mud tracks, this one is no different. Local government makes no effort to keep them clear and safe despite collecting taxes. Beware of falling trees!
Farms - Plenty of country roads are lined with farmland, and the farmer is nowhere in sight! Don't be tempted to go foraging through the crops though, they say the scarecrows are more than straw stuffed mannequins.
Swimming Pond - A peaceful afternoon can be spent sitting in the shade of the trees with a picnic and cooling off in the calm waters. If you happen to see a beautiful naked woman emerge from the water and offer you a sword DO NOT ENGAGE!
The Clearing - This may look like a nice place to take a break or set up camp, but did you know that recent studies show 48% of all random encounters happen in a place just like this! Best to move along while you still can adventurers!
Orchards - A peaceful springtime walk though country roads and the trees are heavy with fruit. Time for the rogue to test those skills with some apple scrumping!
Campsite - There are a number of well-used camping spots along the trail, & if you are lucky the previous inhabitants have left some firewood behind. If you are unlucky they may still be there, lying in wait.
Sawmill - An enormous circular saw blade powered by the roaring river, capable of ripping through mighty oaks, seems to be covered in a red sticky substance. Nothing ominous about that.
Cottage - Many country folk choose not to live in the more established settlements, and are happy in small clusters of 3 or 4 dwellings going about their daily life. A peaceful existence, but also easily targeted by roving bandits and monsters.
