Ep1 Progress Report #12

“Nightclubs are dangerous places. You never know when a predator will become a prey...”


Hi.

I thought I would start this report with these words. 

But jokes aside. Some things are going to happen in the club that MC will visit. That's all I'm going to tell you, although I'm tempted to tell you more, and I can't wait to release Ep1 p2.

I have set a really unhealthy pace for myself, because I want to release WCgW at the end of the month, if it doesn't work out, then at the beginning of June.

I've already been working this way for a few days, which explains the delay with which I made a custom renderer of Kait.

The rule of thumb is simple, as I pose and prepare renders of MC adventures, I don't have much time for other things. Of course, I wrote that polls and making custom renders are a break from the monotony of scene preparation, but now I see a light at the end of the tunnel...  The sooner I finish the graphic part of a future update, the better, so now most of my work I'm spending on posing than rendering.

At this moment, if everything I have prepared I would render, then Ep1 p2 will have 570 images. I wrote that I divided scene #4 into 4 events. I am at the stage of finishing event 3. And most importantly. 

Don't let the end-of-the-month deadline mislead you. In order to make it, I need to have this event completed (script, dialogues) sooner to have time to translate it and send it to the proofreader.


A few words about what you will see in part two, and I'm not talking about revealing the plot.

With choices, some of them will appear in gray — meaning a choice will only be available if the personality of the MC (the ratio of red statistics to blue will be different).

Also, there will be additional dialogue choices depending on the path taken by the MC (as a reminder, path A — Kaitlin, path B — both ladies, path C — Shanon). 

Once again, I am explaining this to you so that you are not surprised later (further episodes) that suddenly a particular choice is not available. I'm just slowly trying to implement what I wrote in previous reports and developer notes. 

In certain scenes, instead of a choice, there will be an MC reaction to a given situation. I do this because if I gave the players a choice, they would eventually choose the "right" option. And in this case, after checking the condition and based on it, the dialogue will be changed, and I will create different renders, etc.

I've done it once before. During the MC's second visit with Amanda at a club, when an agitated customer showed up. Back then, there were 3 reactions of the MC depending on his personality. 

I don't know if you've ever played the Dungeons and Dragons board version. I wrote about this in "developer's thoughts" — I encourage you to read it, so I will refer here to being a DM.

As a DM, I allowed players to do a certain action without checking whether it was successful. Similarly, in WCgW, only in certain situations such test/tests will be conducted (Usually because I want to show, for example, the MC's reaction to a stressful situation or where his instinct has priority).

Simple example. MC is walking down the street, sees that someone has been attacked (reaction A - he goes to help that person, reaction B - he avoids direct confrontation, etc.).

In other news.

I talked to the proofreader (I'm pushing him to send me the verified text of scene 3 as soon as possible), so that I can put everything into renpy and start testing it.
