Tanks! German! Crusader! And the Red Book... Patreon Update 007

It's time for another bi-weekly Patreon update! And yes, I'm slapping my head in the thumbnail. YouTube chose that one by itself so I decided to keep it. I cover quite a bit in the video, and below are some Crusader units to show off too! Starting with...

Here is Major General S. Kopański’s Polish 1st Carpathian Brigade. This unit is part of Major General Scobie’s British 70th Infantry Division - which was guarding Tobruk at the time of Crusader. Now, interestingly, I don't know if Kopański was a Major General or not. One source (a book) says he was, another (internet) says he was a colonel. I guess it makes more sense for him to be a colonel, but I'd rather trust the book than the internet source. If you know either way, and if you have any good background info on this guy, please let me know!

And as part of Kopański’s Polish 1st Carpathian Brigade, we have 11th Czech Infantry Battalion. Wikipedia says the commander of this unit was a guy called Karel Klapálek. Can anyone confirm or deny this? My sources don't say.

And this is one of my pet peeves! I hate it when history books list a unit and don't even bother to say who was in charge of it. This happens so often and it's really frustrating, considering it takes one extra word to say "So-And-So's 55th Infantry Division" rather than saying "55th Infantry Division".

Another annoying one is when they say something like "A battalion moved north." Talk about lazy historians! Which battalion was it? Why not at least put the number of the battalion down so we can hazard a guess. Grrr!

And yes, some Australians took part in Crusader! You hear a lot about the New Zealanders, but not a lot about these guys. This is 2nd Company of 15th Australian Battalion, who are part of 14th Infantry Brigade, itself part of the British 70th Infantry Division. Again though, don't know the commander :(

Danke (!) for your continuing support guys! Every penny counts and is making that difference. I'm working hard to make these videos right. Patience is a virtue - Crusader will be soon, tank videos, more Suvorov, Courland and Stalingrad... it's all happening! And it's all thanks to you, so thank you.

Bye for now :)

I actually put up a poll on a video ages ago asking which battle I should cover next. And most of the votes went to Stalingrad. That's why I started doing the Stalingrad series. The only thing preventing me from doing the Ardennes at the moment is that I've committed to doing a lot of other things already, so I have to prioritise. That said, I definitely want to cover it at some point. Is there anything in particular you want to know about it?

Keep up the great work but don't overdo it! Having said that would you consider doing an Ardennes offensive series?

That is absolutely one of my pet-peeves as well. Part of the reason to make more Battlestorm videos!

The thing that bugs me most about historical book sources are the poor quality or lack of adequate maps. Glad to see on your videos decent maps and info on the units concerned. Well done.
