Roundscape II - Weekly Report #1

Hey folks,

time for the first weekly report for Roundscape II. I'll try to do one of these every week, just talking about what we've been working on and showing some cool progress! 

I'd also like to invite everyone to ask any questions you have regarding Roundscape II, especially about the parts we show off in each weekly report, in the comments.

Optimization

A lot of our energy goes into creating a well optimized game. Keeping shader variants at a min, working with batching, frustum culling and unity's dots system, but also re-using assets in a smart way to keep cache and loading times low. Please don't expect next generation visuals from this game, we want to ensure a good quantity, lots of quests, characters and gameplay. For this, we need to work smart and balance our ambitions, considering the scope of the game and the size of the team.

The Adult Content

Many of you asked: What will the adult scenes be like?

This is a Roundscape Game. Erotica is a pillar of the game, the scenes will be cinematic in nature. We'll use a cinematic camera, dialog options and sometimes even descriptions. Similar to scenes in Roundscape Adorevia. This time they are in 3D and animated.

To provide a cinematic experience, we won't be using a free camera during erotic scenes. Our goal is also not to create the fanciest of tech, but offer well-designed and kinky content in the same vein as our previous games. 

We also consider offering both, 3D and 2D Scenes. For those who prefer drawn art to 3D scenes.

Gameplay Progress

There's one thing that's really important to me: The Companion AI.

The team been thinking a lot about how to make them unique and fun. For this we look at other games such as Skyrim or Baldurs Gate 3 to take inspiration but also ask ourselves, what is something we would have liked to see in those games.

One thing i'm proud of is that each companion will have a passive that functions out of combat.

For example, Mia, the elf nun, will gather herbs and plants for you. While someone with a background as a blacksmith will gather ores for you and a thief may open chests for you as you roam the world of Adorevia.

But of course you as the player also will be able to do all those things on your own.

Early on in Roundscape II, you will be given a special power that allows you to interact with the world in unique ways. You will be able to progress this power through a skill tree but also can shape it through your very decisions in the story of the game.

Oh, and we've also started the work on the first town's general store and its sexy and mature owner. While we've got most mechanics standing (Inventory, Trading, Skill tree) the visuals of the UI are very basic right now, so we're holding off showing them.

Is it only going to be 3 other companions or we getting a larger party size

Looking good! Definitely dig the decision for no free camera. I'd much prefer the cinematic/movie-like feel. Also like the passives for the companions.
