APRN REACTS - Next to Normal Part 5

I've never been hypnotised in therapy as such, but I have done a ton of guided visualisation and imagery rescripting. Some of it was to go back to some core memories, try to put yourself back into that place and time, and first try to find the words to describe why this memory has stuck with you this much and the impact it has had on you, even if the actual event may seem innocuous at first. Then my therapist described "stepping into the memory", as it were, to comfort my young self and tell her what I really would have needed to hear in that moment back when it happened. For me, it was really eye-opening - it helped me pinpoint why those memories were so troubling, why they stuck with me for all those years, and what kind of support I really needed at the time but never got. I imagine it's not for everyone since it really won't work if you respond like Diana did at first here ("oooo stairs!"), but it was incredibly helpful for me and I still think about those sessions all the time.

I am soo happy to hear this for your stepmother!! The negative dialogue is really tough because it can scare people who may really benefit from it. I think the conversation needs to be more open. Thanks for watching 😊

It is so refreshing to have such an informed take on ECT. Other reactions I've seen see it as such a bad thing like "how do we still do this?" and meanwhile my step-mother gets ECT every 2 months or so for her bipolar and it is truly a life changer for her.
