CHUCK VERSUS THE FIRST FIST FIGHT

Now to the episode! What a brilliant, brilliant episode of television. Timothy Dalton is outstanding and probably one of the best casting choices for a character I have ever seen. It's a shame Gregory Tuttle only lasted one episode, but he's amazing as Volkoff as well. The song that plays at the end is the song that played when Chuck's dad died in Season 3. It's like he's dying all over again. You picked up on Dalton potentially being someone "bigger" and badass quite early, and you were indeed right. There were quite a few hints sprinkled in as well, but I didn't catch it as early as you the first time I watched it. The scene with Ellie and their mom was also really touching. It felt real and the casting for Linda Hamilton as their mom is just so great. They look like mother and daughter.

What a great episode and a great reaction too. Regarding Jeffster: Yes they are very well liked by a large portion of the more hardcore Chuck fans, but you're certainly not alone in disliking them. They are absolutely "too much" and in the real world, these two cretins shouldn't be allowed near people and maybe even be institutionalized. That said, I find them hilarious and great comedic relief. They're also a product of the time the show was made, as most shows made today wouldn't have dared with characters such as these (understandably so). I'm not saying I enjoy all their scenes, because some are too much even for me, and i'd never like it if anyone behaved like this in real life. For me, they managed to capture the right amount of crazy and deranged in these two that they never come off as dangerous or threatening. Just sad, pathetic and creepy, and I don't know if it actually makes it better, but watching them being absurd makes me detach from the realism of real life, and I can just watch these two nutjobs behave like buffoons. I like that. Now here comes the main thing I find makes them tolerable: They lose. They never actually win, much like the characters in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphie (who are also absolutely terrible people), they keep losing. Yes, they might have a moment every now and then, but none of their shenanigans actually pays off. That's important. But comedy is subjective. Just because a lot of people find it funny, doesn't mean you will. And not to generalize, but I assume the demographic of people finding it funny is skewered heavily towards men. My ex GF did enjoy them, but they were low on her list of favourite characters. Last thing, and i'm sorry this is longer than I inteded. I think Jeffster symbolizes what Chuck's life could've been like if it wasn't for the intersect. He obviously wouldn't be like them, but they're like a constant reminder of the past and the rut he was in, whereas Casey and Sarah are the symbols for change and growth for Chuck. I also think the writers are quite good at coming up with ways to include Jeffster in the main storyline in the bigger episodes, but I understand that you aren't a fan of that. So yeah, you're well within your rights to dislike them and shouldn't feel bad for it. Don't worry about slagging them off, because they surely deserve it. Regarding the actual episode, i'll post another comment for that later. :)
