Drach, regarding the question of better fire support for the close during the Normandy invasion; the US Navy had the LCS (L)3 class of vessels. These flat bottom boats were designed to beach themselves and provide fire support. Armed with spigot mortars, 40mm, 20mm and .50 cal weapons they would have made of potential difference. However, I believe they only served in teh Pacific. Also, I love the dry-docks!

Q&A During WWII there are several examples of battleship main battery turrets literally falling out as the ship in question capsized during sinking. Bismarck, both Yamato and Musashi, etc. When Oklahoma capsized at Pearl Harbor, I seem to remember her, once righted, coming back up with all main battery turrets in place, I think. Lastly, were all main battery turrets held in by gravity and their own weight and operate on roller bearings?

Ahh, relief, my addiction is fed!

With the gross inaccuracies, I don't plan to see the new Midway Movie. Getting Arizona wrong and showing it three times from different angles seems like what Movies all seem to have that is horrible as the time lapse walking down an alley they do. How Pathetic movies have come. While I enjoy the submarine movie HFRO occasionally, its inaccuracies drive me up the wall. I was on a submarine in the mid 1980s. It didn't follow the book that closely. Movies!

Ah, Saturday night drydock. Thanks Drach.

Gee, Drach, tell us how you REALLY feel about the mistakes in the movie Midway. :-) Loved your descriptions, especially pointing out that even Michael Bey got some things more accurate. (now THAT is a low bar...)
