Eat the Dungeon v0.2 Proposal (3/3): Ideas

Hi! This is the final part of the v0.2 proposal. This mostly focuses on alternate ideas, concepts that were popular and I thought were cool, but I'm still on the fence about. Probably next week I'll put up a poll for patrons to gauge interest is which version to pursue (Default design, Enemies Do Damage, and Fast/Simple)

This also includes a note about the weight/power feature, which is something I forgot to include in part 1. Sorry about that!

I don't have a very strong opinion at this early stage, but I think I prefer the way it is now, where the failure state is making minimal progress for a certain amount of time until you break out of it, rather than being set back.

Speed version as bonus level sounds cool and I don't think it'd be too hard to implement!

I'm not the biggest fan of the damage version. I really liked your original system, it was different and fun, and I enjoyed it not being the same as every thing else out there. The speed version is interesting but idk about as the whole game, maybe that could be the bonus for beating the level quickly; a "secret" round of just eat as much as you can? The weight=power is a good idea. But instead of it being able to double maybe just getting 1 point for each "level" of fatness? To give those levels more...weight if you will. I'm super excited for this project. I look forward to more news and voting in the poll!

I wouldn't want to add additional modes, especially ones that change the game design in such a core way, any time soon. I'd basically be balancing three different games. Maybe I'll put in different modes way down the line, I dunno.

Like the higher the floor you are at like say floor 1 compared to floor 5 the more it gives for beating it in time

I feel like adding a drain would over-complicate the weight/power system unnecessarily. I just want to slightly mitigate the penalties of high weight for players who want to keep their characters fat for longer.

What do you mean by "scales on the level"?

To elaborate, I think that the danger that the HP bar would introduce fits the "feel" that I would personally much prefer the game to have. "The goal is to eat the dungeon, and there is a chance that one might fail to do so on their first try," is a more engaging game than "The goal is to eat the dungeon, and you are guaranteed to at least complete a bare minimum every attempt". (I will note, though, that the enemies running away mechanic seems like it'd be really great, and no matter which combination of all these specifics ends up becoming the next update to the game, i would like to see some form of the running mechanic included. Anyway sorry for the long comments. Just wanna get all my thoughts out.)

I really like all of these ideas you're proposing, in all three Changes posts. Personally, I'm inclined to support the version of the game where enemies do damage, as opposed to the "simple" version. Damage is a part of dungeon-based games that feels pretty integral to the genre. However, I am very curious as to how the simple version proposed here might actually play.

I dunno, mate. I reckon it's already a pretty good trade-off considering how much the girls are slowed by their girth and the changes to restoration mentioned in part 1.

I think getting slower as you get fatter is still a good way to balance getting more powerful as your weight rises. Not sure how I feel about the health thing. Guess we'll see!

well for the w=p idea, could have it where it slowly drains fat, making the boost temporary but draining and boosting attack that way makes it permanent

I'm pretty solid on it. I think the cap is good for keeping it from getting out of control.

Yeah I don't want to commit to a precise penalty until I can try it out and see if it feels good or not.

Glad you took the buff with weight gain under consideration. It balances risk/reward better, but if you don't won't to sacrifice the integrity of your original design, I totally understand

Also fine with hp loss but make it so you lose a percentage of fat not all of it when you lose

Mmm runners sound good but instead make it an enemy that’s rare that scales on the level also weight= more power yes
