Drach, you have 40 1945 Fletcher Class DD’s at your command. What would you feel comfortable challenging? For example, would you take on the entire German High Seas Fleet at Jutland?

Ok, this hasn't been tested but as an ex-RAN damage control officer i can make a few educated guesses. This would be a mission kill & most of the crew would be at risk.
1. She would not sink immediately so survivors shouldn't panic. Unless the immediate blast effects had driven them mad of course. Which would be pointless anyway, see pt 4.
3. No exterior hatch could survive the blast. As the blast travelled down different passageways it would dissipate.
4. For once, the further you are away from the exterior hatches you were, the better.
6. Engineering & DC could probably turn her over after a while.
Our new nuclear subs will carry land attack stand-off MOABs as deterrence to China - torpedoes & ASW for ships!

The United States did indeed declare war on Japan after the Pearl Harbor attack, on December 8. Only one congressperson voted no, Rep. Jeanette Rankin (R-Montana), the first women elected to US Congress, and an avowed pacifist (she also voted against the US entry into WWI). When Germany declared war three days later, The US declared war on Germany and Italy. Ms. Rankin abstained.

Did the USA declare war on anyone? Germany declared war on them, Japan attacked them - I'm not sure there was a formal declaration of war by the US after that.

Lord Drach - What would be the affect of a large thermobaric bomb on a late world war II battleship and her crew?
Assumtion:
Vessel : HMS Vanguard.
Weapon : GBU-43/B MOAB, 21,600 pounds, using 18,700 lb (8,500 kg) of explosive Composition H-6 in an air burst detonation.
Delivery System : Four engined aircraft
I am primarily interested in the
physiological affects of the weapon on the crew and the over-pressure affect on the crew and vessel systems.

Q&A: Given the 1939 condition of the 1939 USN, what difference, if any, would it have made had the USA declared war on Germany during October of 1939?

And never mind enemy fire, HMS Dasher's crew managed to detonate it with a poorly discarded cigarette.

Convoy/ Hunter Killer duty wasn't near the most boring (at least things are happening and you aren't out too long. Aircraft ferry (a VERY common CVE duty) would have been MUCH more boring (especially crossing the Pacific, and you didn't even get to do flight operations (half the time, your cargo needed a crane to unload).
