European Seapower, why so promonent: Let me also add a piece from the author Jared Diamond - the shape of the continent: Europes mountain ranges and sea straits also prevented from being turned into on politcal monocultural stalemate. If all invention stopped up in one kingdom, say at a penicula. There were allways other kingdoms and realms on the other side of the mountain that would continue.

"C" for Cruiser, and "V" for aViation, since "CA" was already used by "Cruiser-Armored" and then "Cruiser-Attack".

My understanding is that in categorizing U.S. Navy aircraft carriers in WWII, the C stood for Carrier and the V stood for Heavier Than Air. This last referring, of course, to the aircraft and identifying them as airplanes as opposed to Lighter Than Air craft like blimps and dirigibles.

If you happen to be making a US trip in August and have any interest in land stuff Oak Ridge, TN has a VJ day thing with reenactments and ground hardware like tanks.

Lightening: I can just imagine lightening following the exhaust path from a RIM-161 missile down to the vertical launch system on a ship... It would be sight to behold. (Hopefully not more than that.)

A Drachathon perhaps?

From what I've heard. The reason the torpedoes launched at Sheffield during the Bismark chase detonated short of the target was the sea state. They were bobbing so much that they exceeded 45 degrees which reversed the axis of the magnetic detonator, which then thought they were under a ship (such a change in magnetic field axis strength being what they were looking for).

Astonishing dedication and stamina, Drach. Just caught up with Warrior 5m guide, when you innocently announced the start of a new Q&A routine. Little did you know...! Now I hardly dare ask a question, lest it be mine that breaks the camel’s back😖

Many thanks for the shout out- and I had just about forgotten about the 'other song'. Looking forward to seeing that.
