I constantly travel for work and my new thing is downloading the drydock episodes to listen to on the plane. This was another great one. Thanks Drach for taking the time to put it together!

Other than Shattered Sword, any recommendations for books on naval history available in audiobook form?

I appreciate Drach's titanic efforts in these long Drydocks that seem to match or exceed the movie "Titanic".

Question for the drydock - Let's say I found myself a newly minted midshipman in 1905 and got assigned to a destroyer. What would have been my duties? Would the situation have been any different ten years later, during WW1?

Q&A Follow up to your culvern versus cannon responses in DD 083; would it have been tactically sound to use the culvern's further range paired with chain/bar shot to target rigging, spars and sails to reduce a target ship's mobility to allow your vessel to close and "finish off" with the heavier cannon from a more advantageous position such as raking the stern; if so, was this sort of tactic taught, if not; what I am I missing?

You forgot to mention on ship painting that the Exec officer's promotion prospects in the pre -dreadnought era depended generally on how well the ship looked and therefore the Exec officers would pay out of their own pocket to enable themselves to achieve full command rank of captain. It caused a lot of problems in the abilities of captains in the Victorian RN. regards

Today is Feb-29. Leap Year Day. My 16th birthday. I wait 1461 days for this. Normally, DryDock is an hour. That makes Drachisms-O-Day super easy, barely an inconvenience. This being a Patreon edition, it's 3.5 hours.. My plans for today's debauchery are about 'sex, drugs and rock-n-roll'...not hardcore naval-history, punctuated with snark. I'll be sitting out this episode. Why do I know that I'll be missing out on a flood of Drachisms?

oh, I think I'm 3 drydocks behind now, feels bad about being delinquent watching them. Thanks for the great vids, collecting drinks and snacks to start some binge-watching Drach-isms of the day. B)
