Outrun - Chapter 371

Personally I don't feel the need for a returning antagonist; clear resolutions to each arc/book are perfectly fine too.

2026-02-19 15:56:10 +0000 UTCOn the contrary, I would say it does feel like an epilogue, in the sense of an extra chapter to wrap things up after the actual ending. It's just a little anticlimactic, like there was not much of an ending to wrap up.

2026-02-19 06:33:16 +0000 UTCYeah, I was trying to have Hope use Zuku when others are around to keep up appearances, but that seems like a quick way to confuse me and you guys.

2026-02-19 04:54:08 +0000 UTCThe classic lackey strategy. Yeah, that’d work. I might do something like that the next time a recurring antagonist pops up.

2026-02-19 04:53:59 +0000 UTCIt’s not just you. This one wasn’t super clear. The next time an investigation arc comes up, I won’t write it nearly as murky.

2026-02-19 04:52:58 +0000 UTC”The robots didn’t get that combat itch of yours?” I’d long known she was a battle nut->scratch that combat itch Also i think Hope shouldnt refer to Shiro as Shiro, maybe from here on since they have the convo after that line.

2026-02-19 04:22:14 +0000 UTCI was just gonna comment that ive had some whiplash at the start of a couple chapters in the last ~5 chapters, like i didnt recognize how we got here or what the connective tissue is, but after seeing people's comments i need to read the chappie so i can share the discourse. My whiplash can totally be blamed on me being dumb, too.

2026-02-19 04:06:21 +0000 UTCI faded on this arc a bit during the robot/chemist stuff. Robot enemies and caustic substances got old faster than I think the story could support. At least for me? So when it wraps here, I think I was still a bit hungover from that fizzle. So yeah, not a strong end to the arc. For arcs where someone gets away to show up later, it helps if you can have a cutout to wrap up at the climax. Sub-villains and lieutenants of bad guys are good for this, I think. If, for example, you had brought elements of this merc unit (the one guarding the stuff in this wrap chapter) in earlier (maybe instead of or alongside the chembots?) and given them a strong leader to be a stand-in antagonist? Something to personalize the foes Shiro is up against that she can overcome in a climax even if the mastermind remains at large.

2026-02-19 03:01:12 +0000 UTCIt kind of reminds me of that line in Men-in-Black when Will Smith's character tries to warn the citizens of the alien invasion and the older mentor character says "The world is always ending", if it makes any sense? Like Shiro isn't the only one fighting, growing and existing in this world there are plenty of other people out there trying to both put out the fires while other ones just want to watch the world burn... Also aliens in Outrun when? 👽

2026-02-19 01:39:02 +0000 UTCThanks for the chapter! I love this story 💜. I love how it feels like it could branch out into so many storylines, it reminds me of my favorite thing about slice-of-life stories, which is getting to know a brand new world and flourishing in it, even while being very action packed and adventurous! I'm already stoked about the idea of a future investigation arc! I would like to see the characters from the School arc to show up again sometime. Sean, the Magi of Mass and even the fox acolyte were nice even if by this point Shiro is punching way above their weight class. They were a good look into what a more intermediary merc might have going on. Also the PMC stuff was interesting even if I don't see them being super relevant to Shiro's story... maybe when she starts to look for customers for CMS she gets more in contact with that part of the "job market"? The Crusade needs informants maybe? Or an exploration over how the green zone and the Trobleshooter act is affecting the merc scene?

2026-02-19 00:45:44 +0000 UTCFor the most part, I agree with #Daemion: The ending of this arc kinda fizzled. Some mention of the traitor would have been a more satisfying ending with better closure. Agree keeping Lavender as a returning antagonist is a good idea; Smart/Evil villains are very useful! The School arc was fun, but I agree it could have been handled differently. Certainly retaining the student name and ties to ‘Important People’ (Nobles) for future stories is good. The School arc also introduced plants as an active character, and Shiro has those nifty underutilized plants powers she doesn’t want. 🤨 Enjoy your vacation! Get recharged!

2026-02-19 00:40:59 +0000 UTCI was going to do an Aether arc at some point. Might be interesting to have her be a smol fox lost in the Aether.
