REFUGE OF EMBERS

Refuge of Embers is a hand-drawn adventure visual novel that takes place in an original fantasy setting. The PC, Mac, Linux, & Android releases are available for free here on Patreon and the latest pre-release versions are available to supporters. The current supporter version 0.99 is very spicy with a massive update nearing completion.

The story follows the renamable main character Biorn as the world he knows gives way to change that causes him to discover a deeper purpose. Biorn lives a simple life with his friends in a remote frontier town at the edge of the known world. Events eventually lead him to Pyre, the enormous capital city where he encounters unusual new characters and situations.

The story will have you playing through branching paths as you unlock endings for each character, and major adult content settings are fully toggleable in the options menu. Outside of standard visual novel mechanics you can objects hidden in various backgrounds throughout the story that will unlock secret bonus scenes in the gallery. There are also secret options and other things to discover, with more secrets planned to be implemented over time.

Escape Sauce is a very small team of 2 just devs and we both absolutely love working on this project. Outside of development we both play a lot of tabletop fantasy games together and it’s very important to us that we capture the kind of rich world building that makes a fantasy universe truly feel lived in.

The latest release features about 30 minutes of gameplay and covers the first week of the story.  The largest release to date is coming in about a month and marks the completion of the prologue chapter. We’ve been hitting 60 day major release windows and as support continues to grow we’ll be able to support larger releases.
