October Poll!

Well, it has been some time since we last had one of these, hasn't it? So let's get to it!

Question: What is your favourite cover by Loz and why? The more you tell us what you like and dislike, be it damsels, designs or whatever else, the better we can become with providing future covers!

The poll will go up now, on August the 2nd, and end on August the 16th. So get to it, people!

UPDATE: Thank you all for participating! We at Team Husman really appreciate your feedback in this matter, seeing as you all put forth a lot of thought on not just your favourite cover(s), but why as well.

The common trend seems to be that more dynamic covers are preferred, where they tell a bit of a story all on their own. DiD is of course appreciated, but it seems to be more of a quality over quantity thing, being part of the cover's dynamic layout. We'll be sure to take all this to heart when designing future covers!

As thanks for your participation, we've seen fit to give you a sneak-peak at our upcoming covers!

Firstly, I have to give props to LoZ for the details in each piece. I kept finding more stuff to look at. If I had to pick a favorite it would #1. I think each of the poses individually is unique and excellent on it's own, and together they form a self-contained story. It captures the moment of Julia unexpectedly finding Lilja, while unaware of Zila's threat in just one picture. Also, my favorite title is the is the one for 3/4 with the M in Semla being the only white letter, assuming the changes are aesthetic and not secret illuminati code.

Number 5 for me. It's simple, but the side profiles and expressions just does it beautifully.

Oddly I have to say that I liked #1 the best. I think it had a really interesting composition with lilja at the front with her tieup and gag having a lot of detail in it, and her looking behind her back suggesting a lot of tension at her predicament. Then you have Julia, in kind of an energetic action pose, but still seeming a bit off balance, unsure of the situation, as if we're going to be in for a lot of thrills. And you got zila in the backround, kinda projecting an air of menace as kind of an early villian who appears in the comic. I think it in a way suggested the tone of the comic overall, DiD, but a lot of other drama as well. Also really liked volume 4. It was a nice show off again of Lilja (when we hadn't seen her in the comic for awhile), while kinda giving us a cool badass/action shot of Zhao and Justine. Good reminder of the kinda peril lilja still was in, and the ramifications/consequences of that.

4, feels like a sneak peek into Lilja looking particularly troubled, where often we see her more defiant or complaining.

It's a bit of a tossup between 2, 4, and 5 for me. 2 has the greatest quantity of damsels, 4 has the most amount of visible bondage on a single damsel, and 5 has three lovely tape gags and Julia looking wonderfully helpless.

My favorite cover is a tough question, but one I’ll try to answer concisely. As a fan of tape bondage, both 4 and 5 stand out greatly for me. However, the former is what takes the cake. 4 masterfully provides a full-bodied image of Lilja heavily bound but kept as a background post to the newest characters, who take front and center in the issue’s cover. LoZ’s approach to this works very well because it allows the new characters to not be overshadowed by the damsel, as they are in the spotlight, without forgetting the comic’s bondage-themes by providing a well-done summation of Lilja’s peril. This also makes for some mystery too because we don’t know exactly their relationship to each other or to Lilja prior to reading. We can tell that the blonde woman in the background is somewhat older, which we can attempt to interpret something from. Maybe it’s her mother, a much older sister or even possibly an Aunt. But why is she in the background and what’s with that sinister look? Is she responsible for Lilja’s predicament? These questions run through the viewer’s mind as they try deciphering her role in the story and await her appearance. Similarly, the green-haired girl front-and-center acts as a lure for the audience. Holding a bladed weapon and wearing a sinister look, we’re also left to ask what’s truly going on for this character and the story as a whole. Questions like with the previous woman come to mind in order to figure out more, all of which plays into the issue’s theme and mystery as Julia seeks exactly what we do: answers. Not to mention, there’s something clever about having Lilja be the damsel of the cover despite not making an appearance in the actual panels. This comes from her existence in the narrative carrying the plot for that portion as Julia, like I previously mentioned, begins piecing together what has led to the current state of affairs. Specifically, how and why did Lilja Trevaine get grabbed. Even if her presence is lacking in the pages, she’s clearly hovering over the newly introduced characters and that’s a well-crafted way to relate the bondage-aspect to the new girls. I could go on about how issue 2 does a similar thing with Amelie, Megan and Francois’ personalities seeping through the cover for the issue while Lilja and Julia are left at the back to remind us we’ll come back to them eventually is also incredible but I think you get the point for what these covers do and why 4 is my favorite as a result. 6 seems to be going for the same idea of a full-body shot and offers an amusing bind for Julia that I think will contribute to that issue’s tone, hopefully. All the covers have offered this same idea to an extent but I think 4 is my overall favorite in this regard. On a side note, something I feel should be mentioned after I looked through the covers is a shift in bondage. Issues 1-2 offered peeks into what the girl’s ties would be like in the actual story and 3-5 have changed this, from the girls not being cleaved gag in 3, Lilja not appearing in 4 and Megan, Julia and Amelie not receiving tape gags in 5. While a fan of those predicaments, I think it’s actually better to offer something else with the issue covers for those not a fan of one particular binding. That’s not to say if there’s an issue full of tape gags, don’t show a tape gag, but I have found it to be a sort of nice treat for issues where those gags and binds weren’t represented. As someone who’s had a lot of experience both as a comic book reader and interacting with those in the field, one thing I’ve learned is the importance of a cover’s statement. Even if not necessarily reflecting a scene from the pages inside, the cover should be able to convey the idea and themes inside, within reason. This has been the case for the last five issues and I don’t see it changing now. As such, you don’t need to be tied down to the exact peril in the story in order to make the cover and I’ve found it better to just go with whatever works, as 4 and 5 are my favorites, though 2 is a close third. Ultimately, what I’m saying is that as long as the cover is fun and conveys the overall idea inside it’s fine. I don’t know if that’s even something I need to tell the team though after looking at the unique situation LoZ has Julia in for 6. Still, I just wanted to express something I’ve liked about the covers as of late. I intended for this message to be extremely short and get to the point. Then I looked at the covers and had a blast analyzing them, so this as much fault LoZ for creating great artwork as it is mine for writing so much about them.

BrokenBolt

My favourite cover is without doubt the cover of issue 5. I like the composition and choice of subjects and how to use them. There is a main damsel (Julia) at the center, but there's also hint at other damsels with the two profiles behind her. And towering in the background there is a (supposed) villain looking very menacing. It's a very good cover! The only bad side of it is that Julia isn't in tape-bondage inside the issue. I prefer cover that show things that actually happen in a comic, but that's just a personal preference.
