2023-12-30 09:43:06 +0000 UTCHi Katie! Oh wow Reno! I've never been and always wanted to go. That's where my hubby's mom and dad got married :). So happy for you that you're fulfilling an item on your bucket list! I adore the Huntington Library!! The gardens are so tranquil, and the museum gift shop has very unique lovely things. I'm also an art museum gal, and my favorite is the unassuming Norton Simon museum (it's actually off of the parade route on Colorado street). The Mulberry Tree by Van Gogh is on view there, as well as a great number of Degas' work, and Picassos too! It's a very small museum so it's not overwhelming and doesn't take long to go through. Also you probably won't have time to see it at all, but if you love Back to the Future (my husband is obsessed) and fine architecture, you might want to check out The Gamble House in Pasadena, which was actually the home used in the film. They do tours of the inside of the house... *cue my husband yelling MARRTTTYYYYYYY at the top of his lungs in the background.* Sigh. LOL! As for carry-on friendly trinkets, you will probably find a few treasures from the Pasadena Antique Mall if you get a chance to go (I'm a sucker for vintage jewelry, vintage cardigans, and quirky salt & pepper shakers myself). If you head downstairs that is where you will find all of the weirdly cool old Hollywood memorabilia. Sorry that was a long-winded comment hahaha. That is to say, I wish you a very happy new year as well Katie, and I hope 2024 is a wonderful one for you too! :)

Thank you so much for the food tips I needed them for sure! And oh yeah I like to go antiquing! Hopefully I can fit it in. I live in Reno…fingers crossed I find an amazing trinket that’s carry-on friendly! …I had tickets for the parade in the 90s as a teenager and my boyfriend’s mom got the times wrong and we missed the tour bus taking us in from the Inland Empire by an hour so it’s become a bucket list item ever since. Have you ever been to the Huntington Library? It’s in Pasadena area as well and one of my favorite places on Earth. Going there on New Year’s Eve day…I definitely recommend it if you’ve never been. Happy New Year to you and hope you have an enchanted year to come!!

My sister and I grew up visiting my grandparents in Monrovia (a city a stone's throw away from Pasadena). My family and I went to the Rose Parade back in the 90s' when I was a kid, which was magical, but it was FREEZING so bundle up! I remember sitting on the ground on the parade route (even with a blanket) and it was like sitting on a block of ice. Also dining out tip, the best pastrami sammies (and double fried fries drool) on planet earth are in Eagle Rock at The Oinkster an old school vibe/kitschy eatery. If you are a vegetarian/vegan I think they have a couple options there as well. Lastly, if you adore antiques makes sure you make it to the Pasadena Antique Mall. Their prices are very affordable, and there are a lot of Hollywood treasures there. Enjoy!
