Groovy Gorilla Boxing - Animation

Today, 22 of April, it's Gorilla Boxing Day, a day to celebrate apes in boxing gear, and I decided to celebrate that by dressing my character, Gokong, in modern "clothes" and make him jump around.

(Also @MrHogswild gave me some tips while making this, go play his game!)

It was fun and frustrating. Animation is about choosing your battles and I've learned which to choose while practicing. For example, lines for muscle definition create a lot of clutter to bring along for every new frame and have to be kept to a minimum, letting the shape of the body to suggest the build of a character.

Secondly, hands are even harder to draw in animation because they move an awful lot, and you have to sketch them first all the way, instead of hoping to make some in-betweens directly on the lineart layer.

For the rest, is very hard to stay in-model when there is so much information from the sketch and the other frames that overlap, and I have to optimize the method, maybe by making more essential sketches that give the big shapes of the head and muzzle.

Especially now that I'm working at an even more ambitious animation for SkyHorn.

Don't worry, you'll get Celebrity Bangmatch's updates this weekend.

Have a groovy day!
