Mythologically inspired by another old man of the sea, the god Proteus, and zoologically to the genus Proteus, an amphibian endemic of Alpine water caves between Italy and Slovenia, similar to the Southamerican axolotl.

His species dwell in underground caves and collect gemstones. They're strictly nocturnal because they can't tolerate direct sunlight, as you can deduce from the paleness of their skin.
