Home Grown 0.1.5 - Weeds!
Added 2022-05-13 17:37:08 +0000 UTC
I've just finished work on the latest addition to Home Grown: weeds! These unwanted plants will pop-up in your vegetable beds and start to negatively effect your crops unless you do some weeding. There's also a chance that you might accidentally introduce an invasive weed species into your garden, which you will want to eradicate as quickly as possible before it spreads!
I made a devlog video about the process of implementing weeds into the game which you can check out here: https://youtu.be/TGyMznQmWQY
If you'd like to try the new feature out for yourself, you can download the game here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u-dDw0ARAzQgsWBM7WC6Wzyg0y4bzNJY/view?usp=sharing
Unzip then run the relevant jar file to launch the game. You’ll need to have Java installed on your computer for it to work.
New Features:
- Over time weeds will grow in your beds. The more weeds, the more your vegetables' health is affected.
- There are 3 new tools which can be used to remove weeds: Small Fork, Hoe, and Weed Killer.
- The cheap compost has the chance of introducing an aggressive, invasive species of weeds into your garden. This species will spread if you don't take care of it and will affect your plants more than the standard weeds. Consistent weeding will be able to remove it completely.
Tweaks:
- Right click on the relevant compost bin to empty your compost bucket back into it.
Coming Up Next:
- The inventory system is going to get an overhaul! Having to open up the inventory every time you want to change item is annoying, so that will be fixed in the next update.
- After that the way tools work is going to be improved, reducing the amount of clicking in the game by a lot!
A few things to note:
- The more expensive plants require less watering than the cheap plants, and bring in more profit as well.
- When you close the game it automatically saves your progress for the next time you play. However, there's currently no way to switch saves at the moment so you can basically only have one save. Delete/remove the save file from the saves folder if you want to start a new garden.
Let me know if you find any bugs or have any suggestions. Thanks as always for your support!
