working on things, and also, myself

hey y'all !! just wanted to drop in and say hi. how are y'all? are you good? please let me know !! 

the weather here in seattle has been so clear and warm (by warm i mean 55 degrees F) but today is Classic Seattle weather, so it's gray and chilly and the threat of rain hangs in the air. It's a very very cozy day which is the whole reason I moved here, so I'm hoping to get some good work done. 

opening my own business has 1) made me realize that it entails so much more work than i could have ever anticipated and 2) made me confront the fact that both my work ethic and my self-discipline need a lot of work !! and that's okay, cause we're all just a work in progress anywho, right? 

i've been listening to lots of The Life Coach School with Brooke Castillo (her recent ep on taking action despite negative emotion has this long amazing rant re: work ethic in the beginning and it's dope as all hell) and I've finally started reading The Working Women's Handbook. Also starting in on Charles Duhigg's The Power of Habit which every productive person I look up swears by, so. I'm excited to dig into that. I have also, of course, been listening to My Brother, My Brother And Me nonstop while working so if you're not already on the McElroy train, ya better HOP ON PAL. 

I also have a couple fiction books on my immediate to-read list that I wanna start reading before bedtime, cause reading self-dev books before bed is not good for calming my brain. The two at the top of my list are Donna Tartt's The Secret History and Murakami's Kafka on the Shore. Norwegian Wood is my fave book of all time, but I feel like I can't say Murakami is my fave author when I've only read one of his books. 

also, sidebar: if you're a US citizen over the age of 18, make sure you register to vote!!! the 2018 midterm elections this fall are SO IMPORTANT so you gotta make sure you're able to vote and make a real difference in your future. it's the only way we're gonna kick that egotistical tangerine to the curb.
