New funding method for additional comics
Added 2024-10-05 21:49:31 +0000 UTCOkay, so the question I asked earlier got me thinking. It seems like there are a LOT of suggestions for more and more comics to create, and with enough time, I’m confident I can get to most of them. But, of course, funding is always a factor. I already have a business model in place, but lately, it’s been feeling less convenient.
So, here’s what I’m thinking: I’m considering creating a new Patreon tier specifically to fund a comic project that you get to pick through a poll (that poll would have only stories already written). The money from this tier will be locked in and only used for that one project.
For now, I think the tier would be set at 25.50€.
Here’s the plan:
Cost per page: A single page costs about 300€, so we’d need at least 12 supporters in this tier to fully fund one page per month. More people can join if they want to, and are welcome to do so. (There'd be a possibility to go to 2 pages per month with enough funding, but it'd depend of the artist. Some told me they can and prove it, other absolutely can't, so don't take my word on it.)
Locked funds: The money you pledge in this tier would be locked for that specific project and wouldn't be used for anything else.
What if we don’t get enough supporters?
If the project doesn’t get enough support, we’ve got two options:
If we have at least half the supporters we need (e.g., 6 out of 12), we'd just wait and let the funds build up until we have enough for one page. It might take up to two months per page, but we’d get there.
If we don’t get enough supporters at all, we'd cancel the project, and I'd refund anyone who contributed.
What do you get in return?
On top of all the usual perks from the lower tiers, you'd also get a few extra benefits for helping fund the project:
Early access to the pages (about 2-3 months ahead of the usual patreon release. You get the freshest updates you can get, as soon as I have something new. It's how I currently work with the comics funded outside of the patreon).
Your name in the credits of each pages.
A private chat to discuss the project (while the story is already set, I often make small tweaks to please funders).
Why do this?
This approach allows you to fund a comic you’re really excited about, page by page, with complete transparency. You’d know exactly where your money’s going, and if the project doesn’t have enough support, you wouldn't be left hanging.
What do you think? Would you be interested in this kind of funding model?
If we have enough yes, I'll do a poll with the next projects already written to let you choose the first one we could make.

2024-10-05 23:33:43 +0000 UTCThe idea is to fund the comics I write, story board and supervise myself tho :v I'm not saying that I'm planning to make the ideas of someone else like a commission. The character will be chosen in a poll, and the stories are already written.
