Chapter 539: The True Evil God
Added 2025-07-02 15:09:01 +0000 UTCThe Transcendents of the New Continent lacked the rigorous training systems of the Old Continent, leading to their potential being prematurely tapped and their overall limits lower than those of their Old Continent counterparts. In terms of actual strength, Transcendents from the New Continent could not compare to those of the same rank from the Old Continent. However, due to the extensive exposure to Evil Gods on the New Continent, many of their Transcendents were tainted by the aura of these beings, with traces of Evil God power subtly influencing their abilities.
The power of the Evil Gods was ever-changing, bizarre, and unpredictable. Those adept at manipulating this power gained significant advantages in battle.
Romeos fought Yishemierlen for hours without gaining the upper hand. This astonished the Grand Speaker of the New Continent Council and one of the five peak Saint rank individuals of the New Continent. He thought to himself, “He’s from the Old Continent, so how is his manipulation of Evil God power more refined and masterful than mine? I can’t even detect any traces of his control—it’s as if he is the embodiment of an Evil God walking among mortals. But how could an Evil God behave so... normal?”
People from the Old Continent, having faced countless Evil Gods, were well aware of their tendencies: lacking wisdom, devoid of logic, and often in perpetual states of rage. Some did not even possess human-like thought processes, responding coldly and mechanically to the world based on inexplicable rules.
Yet Yishemierlen, a being whose memory was utterly fragmented and who had long since fallen, seemed to behave in ways uncharacteristic of an Evil God.
Although Romeos still had several trump cards, he was reluctant to use them in such a battle. Summoning the shadowy veil of darkness, he pushed Yishemierlen away and shouted, “Shall we call this round a draw?”
Charlot Mecklenburg issued an order to Yishemierlen, who smiled faintly before turning and stepping into the Mirror of Power.
Returning to Arcadia Port, Romeos remarked, “Duke Charlot Mecklenburg’s subordinates are full of hidden talents. We should never have provoked him in the first place. It would have been wiser to target smaller nations instead.”
The Old Continent consisted of thirty-three countries. Besides the five great empires, there were more than twenty smaller nations, as well as the northern frontier and the southern continent. Confronting Charlot directly was far from the optimal choice.
Avish countered, “The Duchy of Mecklenburg was a newly established territory, and at that time, Charlot wasn’t even present. It was a vulnerable moment. That land used to be the most prosperous and fertile region of the Black Phoenix Dynasty. There was no better target than the Duchy of Mecklenburg.”
Romeos acknowledged the truth in Avish’s words. The Duchy of Mecklenburg was no ordinary duchy. While most duchies, like Behemoth, Moldova, or Mossred, were equivalent to a single large administrative region, the Mecklenburg Duchy encompassed thirteen districts and over a hundred noble territories. Furthermore, its coastal lands were rich and bountiful. Occupying it would have provided the returning New Continent settlers with a sustainable base and secured their prosperity for centuries.
But no one could have predicted that Princess Annie would bring Clair Bretagne and Ebner Soumet to personally oversee Black Phoenix City. Seeking aid from major factions, they managed to resist the New Continent Coalition long enough for Charlot to return.
Nor could anyone have imagined that Charlot would not only bring back a host of Saint rank warriors but also four legendary warships. Among them, two were even more ominous than Evil Gods themselves, obliterating the New Continent Coalition outside Black Phoenix City in a single battle. Following this, Charlot swiftly reclaimed lost territories and compressed the New Continent Council’s forces into the South Seraph region.
A female Saint rank individual spoke up, “I’ll fight the second round.”
Romeos, slightly surprised, asked, “Red Hawk! Charlot’s forces have no shortage of powerhouses. Are you confident?”
Red Hawk replied, “I should… be able to manage a draw.”
Romeos said, “Then I wish you good luck.”
Red Hawk ascended into the air, swiftly arriving at the battlefield. She called out clearly, “Charlot Mecklenburg! I challenge you to the second round.”
Charlot was taken aback, not expecting to see the female pirate again, let alone that Red Hawk had aligned herself with the New Continent Council. Then again, it wasn’t entirely surprising. After all, she had been in the New Continent for many years and was more familiar with its people.
Charlot scanned his Saint rank subordinates and said to Andreas, “Go. Aim for a draw with her.”
“If you’re losing, just tell her that if she wins, I’ll kill her brother.”
Though Red Hawk had once fought alongside him, they were now enemies, and Charlot saw no reason to hold back. Red Hawk was a twenty-second rank Saint, a strong contender. Sending an equally ranked Saint against her would strain his forces for future challenges. Thus, he chose Andreas for a strategic exchange.
Andreas protested, “Just because I’m friendly with a few wriggling demons doesn’t mean I should be sent to my death! I still have value. If I threaten her with her brother, won’t she just kill me out of rage?”
Charlot replied, “I fought alongside her before. Argon… oh, Argon doesn’t know her. But the other beastmen do. I suspect she has something to say. If things go south, retreat quickly.”
Grumbling under his breath, Andreas ascended into the air and met Red Hawk. Without much dialogue, they immediately began fighting.
Since advancing to the twentieth rank, Andreas had gained incredible speed, rivaling that of the veteran Leopardman Tumisan. However, Red Hawk, renowned for her own speed, was a higher rank. From the start, the battle was one-sided.
Sensing the tides turning against him, Andreas quickly shouted, “Charlot told me to say that if you win, he’ll kill your brother.”
Red Hawk couldn’t help but laugh, muttering under her breath, “Still as shameless as ever.” Her attacks momentarily slowed.
Taking the opportunity, Andreas whispered, “You know Charlot. Why not rejoin him? Following these New Continent people leads nowhere. The Mecklenburg Duchy will inevitably become the fifth great empire. Those who follow Charlot will have limitless prospects.”
Red Hawk hesitated, feeling a twinge of melancholy. Years ago, she had underestimated Charlot. As one of the ten great pirates, she had suffered defeat in the New Continent, losing all her subordinates and fleet to the Evil God Tugnevraf. She had hoped to rebuild her forces.
But she had never imagined Charlot’s meteoric rise—aligning himself with the Bretagne family, securing a high-ranking position in the New Fars Empire, and far surpassing her expectations. Now, returning to him seemed… ill-timed.
In a low voice, Red Hawk said, “We returned to the Old Continent to survive, but if this war continues, few will live to see its end.”
“This war is meaningless, but some people, driven by greed, refuse to let it end…”
Hearing this, Andreas perked up, his mind racing with possibilities.
