Chromatic Aberration, also known as Lenticular blur!
Added 2016-05-28 05:06:07 +0000 UTCI got this great question off a tumblr follower not too long ago, and got that question again today! This technique adds a bit of that colorful haze seen on the edge of images that acts similar to bounce lighting that we see in the world around us, and makes them feel more atmospheric! So here yo go! a bit of a shorter text tutorial as I pick away at my first big video piece :)
ADDING CHROMATIC ABERRATION!

Whell!
There are a couple options, and I will show you two ways! to get from this

To this!

- METHOD 1
- Underneath "filter" there is an option called "lens correction". Select that.
- Push the sliders underneath Chromatic Aberration
- In my experience, shifting red/cyan into the negative, green/magenta into the positive and blue/yellow into the negative gives me the best results!

- Dont go too crazy! this style is (in my opinion) already looking a little dated and is easy to spot. But once you get to an option you like!, click "ok!"

- METHOD 2
Of doing this is a little easier but also gives you a much more INTENSE color shift, since rather than slightly bowing our color channels through the lens correction filter, we are shifting the whole channel.
- ctrl+A (select all) on the image or area you want to give the aberration to
- go into your channels and select, one of the colors (red for example)
- now using the arrow keys on your keyboard, tap them once in any direction. this will shift the underlying color channel by one pixel, giving the image this chromatic haze!
- and BOOM! it should shift the color channels and give you the aberrant edge!
This way is a little harder to adjust I think, but has its uses. Make sure though as you are shifting your layers, you click the eye icon for your RGB channels, and are able to watch the changes(without the visible eye icon clicked you wont see the layers!).

I hope that helps! and as always with photoshop,
