Devlog #12: I am speed.

Another Monday, another devlog! (Seriously though, how is it Monday already?)

I come to you with good news! I picked up the pace better than expected this past week and managed to knock out ~90% of the writing. I still have days 57 -> 59 and I should have them done by the end of today. As for day 60, I'm putting a pin in it and leaving the writing for it for later in the dev cycle. (I'll explain why in a bit)

So what's the plan for this week?

Like I said earlier, I still have the last 3 days to write, and they'll be finished today. Once they're out of the way, I’ll move straight into proofreading. Since I’ve been writing on a day-by-day basis (in terms of in-game days), I want to take a step back and look at the update as a whole, just to make sure the flow and pacing are good, and I haven’t accidentally tunnel-visioned anywhere in the narrative.

Afterwards, (and after making sure everything up until that point is 100% locked in) I'm going to move onto rendering the first 10 days of the update (41->51). They're the heaviest content-wise, so making sure the scripts + renders for them are solid, and then getting them done will be a huge weight off my shoulders down the line. I'll be rendering them the same way I've been writing, on a day-by-day basis.

Realistically, that should be done by mid-next week, but I'll try my best to get them done quicker.

What about day 60?

I've been non-stop writing for the past 3(?) weeks now, and honestly I need a short break from it.

Even though I moved away from the formulaic approach of each final day, the fact remains that it still needs to be impactful, and given that I'm a little burnt out from writing at the moment, I don't have it in me to make it what it needs to be, and trying to force it would be a waste of precious time.

So I'm shifting a little by rendering the days that are not subject to any change. I'll still be making progress that way, while giving myself a buffer to recharge and get that writing spirit back.

If that's the case, why not render everything in one go?

Back in devlog #10, I mentioned that story overlap would start with V3 , and that's still true. However, as things stand now, I still have enough flexibility to treat each half of the update somewhat independently and develop them in a vacuum. Day 51 works as a natural midpoint, which gives me a clear stopping point for the first (and larger) batch of renders.

After finishing everything up to Day 51 , I can then take another fresh look at the second half of the update that I've already written , and have the freedom to make adjustments or changes when needed, without having to worry about redoing any already-rendered content.

That's all I have for today! Apologies for another long post, I just want to keep as in-the-loop as possible! Have a wonderful week, and see you next Monday!
