Revisiting 'Friends and Family' licencing.
Added 2019-08-19 11:50:04 +0000 UTCLast month we discussed the issue of AMP licencing to host servers for friends and family. And since then we've continued to look at the issue.
Rather than making the licencing situation even more confusing by rolling out yet another AMP edition, we've instead decided that it's best to roll it into one of the existing licences.
So what we're looking at doing is the following:
- Increasing the price of AMP Network Edition slightly from £25 to £30
- Changing the Network Edition terms to allow up to 10 instances that allows hosting for up friends and family. This is out of the 50 instances that the licence allows rather than increasing the limit, so if you used up all 10 friends+family instances, 40 would remain for normal ones.
As of writing, the £5 price increase gives you the equivalent of £15 worth of AMP Pro licences to create instances for friends and family.
Those friends/family members that you create instances for would be allowed full access to those instances, but as before will not be allowed to create instances or to ever have access to the AMP licence key or know what it is.
This move would simplify the licencing for this scenario massively.
Of course as before if you'd rather not spend the money on the larger Network Edition, your friends/family can always purchase their own copies of AMP Pro that you host on their behalf.
We'd love to know what you all think about this, so let us know in the comments below or on Twitter.
