I am HERE for the gay drama. at first where I thought this was going to go when Carter said "oh, I see, you're afraid" was going to be "of falling in love with me!" the usual self-aggrandizing humor that we can expect from him. and while he may mean it in a semi-joking way (he works hard to have a high opinion of himself, but he might not expect that from ruben), what he absolutely wouldn't be prepared for is Ruben responding with sincere affirmation. "Yes, actually. that's it exactly. (followed by an outpouring of his genuine angst about his girlfriend and principels that Carter proceeds to have no idea how to handle. he even knows that Ruben isn't doing a bit with him, because at this point he would know that Ruben Doesn't Do Bits). surprise! your fake flirting has turned into heavy material.
