Thoughts on which ways the player should be able to make friends with factions?

Short of implementing a radiant quest system (eg. Kill x no. of enemy) you can have a system where NPCs approach you for certain items. Eg: Nevermore trainers ask for restraints, witches seek scrolls/magic potions, Dragonhearts ask for stamina potions and weapons, Old Gaurdians ask for power crystals.
