Hoplite 3D Sculpt

This one I feel came out super awesome, another "Bishop Blowup" success.
The shapes work well to convey a mech that is built to carry around weapons and do little else.

Sculpted by Alan Blackwell. Are you guys noticing how much work Alan has put in on this kickstarter? He's been working full time along side me since the last one ended to bring us here (not to mention all his work on the last KS).

Meanwhile I think I've managed to delegate away over half of the redesign sketch tasks to other designers this time around. Though I still spend a number of hours on each doing feedback and draw overs, just as I do similar time tweaking the 3D models.

Who's gonna be fielding these?

Haha maybe.

Isn't this the mech we saw an Atlas using as a hockey puck on Sarna net?

Tyler Erickson

Very King Crab vibe to it.

Good design, doesn't look as goofy as it did before you touched it up.

The new design gives me a GDI Titan vibe and I like it even more because of it.

Looking closely at the cockpit you paint the panels in the center of left and right windshield into some evil looking snake eyes!

Wait, what about the crab?! - older brother?

Stewart Spencer

Will definitely need one in SLDF green.

I remember when we first got TRO 3050, a friend of mine swore up and down that the Hoplite was named as it was because it only had one leg and hopped around everywhere... (the 3050 art was the source of his belief). And while later renditions dispelled his misinterpretation, it always made me wonder how hard that gyro worked to keep the thing balanced. The Hoplite and the Hussar, both. This version is adorable (in a good way!), and definitely looks like it can stand on its own (literally). My newly constituted Wolf's Dragoons Battalion will probably be fielding a few of these as soon as they're available in the wild.

....And wants it named Baby Crab, so King Crab and Baby Crab can be together.

I honestly liked David Whites "mini kingcrab" version of the 4Bb from operation klondike a bit more. But do i still have that weak spot for missconstructed mechs? Of course. Will i field one of the new hoplites? Hell yeah.

Looks like a nice update on a design which did not start off very well. It’s actually kind of cute.

This definitely went from a mech that looked just truly awful, possibly one of the worst-looking mechs ever created, to a mech that I might actually want to have a copy of. I still don't like it *stats-wise*, but it at least now looks like something I wouldn't be ashamed to put on the table. I think that's a pretty amazing glow-up.

Robert Schuster

My girlfriend thinks it's cute.
