Forgot to post this sketch up before the 3D renders, and considering all the talk about arm and other proportion changes I thought this might provide some good insight.
On the right is my initial sketch, where I tried to be more faithful to the original Crow. You can already see I've pulled the arms out and down, but as much as some might consider the high and tucked in arms a key of the old silhouette, I don't think that conveys a powerful look. Utilitarian at best. Small hand actuators and smaller weapons are there, all disliked by management. The simple torso shapes were also said to be lacking.
On the left is what I pulled out after giving the design a week break. Beefier arms and weapons. Updetailing the torso, especially in the cockpit and air intake areas. Slightly beefier legs.
I think this mech is a case where "ugly" being a key visual definition of a design was sacrificed to make the mech simply look cooler. Does that make it more divergent from the original? Yes. But strictly ugly mechs aren't quite acceptable going forward. I value utilitarian ugliness, but it has to come with some attractive merit.
The final design, IMO, much better says "I'm from the future and will kill you with precision".
