Great comment by the way about the difference between seeing the game from the stands (and seeing the whole pitch) as against watching the game via tv coverage. I really wish such coverage could try to embrace this (somehow) because it really matters.

I wonder whether you can chalk up the getting caught up in possession (obviously for Lokonga on the second goal, but also a few times for Tomi) to needing time to adjust to the pace of the league. I like what I see out of Sambi and think he'll bounce back fine - it's just a thought that came to my mind over the course of the second half.

What would the score have been if we swapped managers? A Vieira Arsenal would have taken an Arteta Palace apart.

Great start being there, hearing the crowd singing about Vieira and that early goal; terrible middle where maybe we didn't lack conviction so much as get complacent and let them into the game; and great relief at the end. Palace weren't great but what they did was effective. My greatest surprise was the lack of reaction at the start of the second half to the press. White and Gabriel didn't ping that many balls to relieve the pressure and we paid for it. Let's hope we learn the right lessons from this.

We miss xhakas leadership. Cruel fate that injury. Have to hope odegaard can settle into that deeper role. I was happy with his off the ball work. He was just too shy on the ball as were many others. We need more effective communicators on the pitch now that xhaka is out. Laca and auba on the left for villa I think.
