EARLY ACCESS | RETRY: Elden Ring | Ep.42: The (NSFW) Shaded Castle

Hey lovely patrons,

Today Aunty Finchy has a lot on her plate. We've got a cave, a catacomb, and there's even time to head to the Shaded Castle where something quite mucky is going on.

We hope you love the episode, and don't forget to use some soap when it's all over.

Came here to politely ask for less mimic tear in cool boss fights. But I see that’s been covered pretty extensively. So, erm… thanks.

Mark Hattersley

In theory I reckon the mimic should be restricted (I felt like I cheated myself with it a few times in my own playthrough) but so far the pace of the show has been perfect imo. Krupa knows what he's doing!

Jack Churchill

everyone is mad about the Mimic Tear and I'm just here upset they didn't let Rory get invaded by Elemer before the fight

Thomas DiNapoli

Have some faith in the lads that they know how to make a great show and there will be hard bosses to come. They’re trying to get through some side stuff quickly right now because Krupa knows there’s a difficulty spike right around the corner.

Michelle Dupler

I did it as far as the first boss but missed the second one!

Michelle Dupler

Please keep using the mimic tear! I love seeing her come out and show off all the things you guys have equipped!

Scott & Sora

Bloody love Aunty Finchy and Aunty Finchy slapping bosses silly. The scale of this game and by extension this project (as you've spoken about extensively!) is so huge I understand why you're approaching it in a way that really opens up the narrative. There are a billion lets plays about the difficulty of these games, this is something really special.

Jack Hughes

I would like RKG to play the game and produce episodes in a way that is fun for them. That’s it. I’m here to watch Rory, Krupa and Gav and their chemistry. I’m not interested in arbitrary “rules” to make it harder for the entertainment of a vocal minority. Play and have fun. That’s it.

Michelle Dupler

You're all doing a phenomenal job! Thanks for another great episode. 💜

Rangi Csiszár

Keep playing how you enjoy playing boys. ♥ Four bosses in one episode is a stellar effort.

Ben Mitchell

As an enjoyer of RKG and employer of the mimic tear for my playthrough, I have no complaints with Rory’s tactics at the moment. He certainly managed the nsfw castle far more adeptly than my experience.

Andrew Parsons

Another banger of an episode. You can tell a lot of effort has gone in to planning each episode, loved the pacing and lore of this one especially, in Krupa we trust !!

Mark Holden

I for one loved the episode and the immense amount of work that goes into each show! Its such a step above everything else similar it's unbelievable! I wonder what the total run time of the retry is so far compared to the other games 😂

Anders Graham

Great stuff as always lads! However agree with some of the other comments that summons, particularly the mimic tear, are perhaps being used a bit too much which does take away some of the challenge aspect that we've all come to love about the show. Appreciate Elden Ring is a different beast in terms of size etc, but dying twice to a boss after fighting through the area and then summoning the Mimic which then makes the fight a non-issue does feel a tad anti-climactic

Craig Lucas

The thing is, Rory is pretty good at these games now, and I don't think every boss would be it's own episode without summons. Certainly not to the extent of Laurence. Elemer probably would have been 10 attempts or less without a summon, it just would have been more fun watching him learn the boss and best it

Hayden Smith

loved the episode guys, keep up the great content. I do gotta say though, it's kinda disapointing to see you guys come up to a really cool boss that should make for a fun difficult fight and then see it get steam rolled by spirit summons. i definitely get using them against bosses that have multiple enemies or just to speed through dungeon/repeat bosses. but the game, especially towards the end has some super rewarding and amazing boss encounters that really do fall apart easily when there are multiple entities to draw agro. i've been watching for a long time and my favourite episodes have been ones where Rory battles it out and eventually overcomes a tough boss and unfortunately I just don't think you'll get that same effect using spirit summons

blake kavanagh

Particularly when they said 'no summons' right outside the boss fog. Wish they'd stuck to their guns on that one, but it was still a good episode

Marcello de Livera

IMHO over world / cave / catacomb / any minor boss interactions are the perfect time to use and enjoy summons in the context of this series, and that's mostly what we've had so far in Part 2.

Joe Kershaw

Yeah I agree, I think it’d be fine to use summons for field bosses or just dungeons and caves but I’d just like to see more of the bigger bosses I feel like that would strike a good balance

I’d be content if they at least banned Mimic Tear. We all know it’s ridiculously overpowered and it’s boring to watch Mimic Tear beat every boss

Mike

The problem is if half the episodes of this were boss episodes it would get pretty old I think. This is already 3x longer than any other series, it has to balanced. People forget Lawrence was one episode in not that many.

Lexxington87

You know we’ve been spoiled when my first thought at seeing that this is 1:35 is “oh! A short one!” 😂

Katie Manthey

Krupa-about your comment about people drinking anything…check out the Ken Burns Prohibition documentary to see what people would consume in lieu of liquor. It was crazy!

VaultBoy1974

Agreed wholeheartedly. Weirdly enough, they realized this pretty early on, and put some summon restrictions in. Then they just eliminated all of them, and I'm still not sure why. The show was at it's best when Rory was taking on the big bosses solo, like old school prepare to try/retry

Hayden Smith

TIL the Sage's Cave exists. After, y'know, near 400 hours in the game.

Samuel Katz

I think I agree overall. I understand the story summons like the in the last episode, but we’ve become accustomed to part of the show being stuck on bosses for a long time. With the mimic tear it seems like it is indeed a feature that in this case reduces the number of tries significantly. Hopefully on the much bigger and more key bosses we see 1v1 and the moments akin to the Lawrence fight make a comeback.

Dave Higgins

loved the episode, though it does feel alot of recent boss fights are going the same way with giving it a couple attempts then summoning mimic tear and doing immediately which is fair enough if thats how you want to do it though it would be nice to have a bit more time with at least some of the bigger bosses but if not i also understand

I'm throwing plasterboards on walls and ceilings all day in this british heat... the knowledge this awaits for me when I get home is keeping me going!

Dean Brown

This is just what I needed! I just defeated a certain boss in ER after having felt depressed over trying and trying again without success. I need a break 😂

Sabine Pescheck

Ah man had an amazing skate session this morning now settling with a coffee and this - PERFECT 😊

Richard Field

It’s Saturday. It’s 10am. That could only mean one thing. Strap yourselves in for another fun filled episode!
