His murder and the feds finding his lab notes sparked made the feds zero in on Gale. If you remember, Hank initially believed that Gale was Heisenberg and it would have been case closed because a dead man would have been held responsible. Walt didn’t like that Gale was getting that type of credit for an identity he created, so he planted in Hank’s ear that there was no way someone like Gale could run a meth business and that someone more power is capable of such things. From there, Hank literally said that he kept thinking about what Walt said and set his eyes on Gus. Thats when they found the connection between gale and gus, remember they questioned gus, they bugged his car, and did sweeps of all his main locations (the chicken farm and the laundromat where the meth lab was). Thats why gus wanted to kill hank, because Walter’s ego wouldn’t let Gale take the credit for being Heisenberg and he purposely expressed that to a dea agent, leading him to look at other possible suspects. Once gus was killed and the destroyed meth lab was found, it had confirmed what Hank suspected. But since the head of operations was dead, it only makes sense that they focus on the main people underneath him (mike and the 9 others in custody). So if walter let hank believe gale was Heisenberg, hank would have never had a reason to look at gus. So gus would have never wanted to kill hank
