They kept insisting Rhaenyra would kill them all if she took the throne, but Rhaenyra NEVER displayed any of that behavior. She genuinely thought they'd healed and moved past everything. The Greens were the ones who consistently went after her, ridiculed her and her children, and then usurped her throne. They let their paranoia destroy everything when they could have just been princes and princesses living their best lives. They could have kept the House of the Dragon strong and united like Targaryens always did. Historically, they stayed powerful by marrying within their own bloodline or to houses with Targaryen blood (like Rhaenyra's mom Aemma, who was half Targaryen through the Arryns). That strategy kept them locked in together despite any beef because they knew they had to maintain a united front. Dragons fighting dragons was the ONLY way they could ever lose their power. Viserys marrying Alicent Hightower was legitimately his worst decision because it was obviously a power grab by an outside house. That marriage fractured the family in ways that staying with Targaryen blooded houses never would have.

She protected him with her own life in 1x9 and sat beside him during his recovery and blamed herself when Aegon flew against Rhaenys after she told him not to do anything. Otto can't show her affection (2x2), therefore she can't do the same for her own kids (generational trauma). She hates what he did to Dyana but can't stop loving him. That's why she was so emotional when Rhaenyra told her what must be done.

It's speculated that when she said to Alicent she forgives her it's for a decision Alicent will make in the future, which was switching to Rhaenyras side in this episode.

2025-12-26 16:48:33 +0000 UTC1) The council planned on crowning Aegon with or without Alicent. 2) Alicent was a child herself when she had the kids and Criston/Otto/Viserys' actions all affected how those kids grew up. 3) She switched sides when she realized Viserys didn't want Aegon to be king and to stop the killing. 4) It wasn't Alicents idea to kill Aegon, it was Rhaenyras (She's not giving Rhaenyra a knife and saying "go get him gurl!") it was an emotional decision which she doesn't agree with but understand it's a necessary sacrifice for peace and saving lives.
