Nick Caged - Page 2 WIP (Pencils!)
Added 2024-03-25 00:14:17 +0000 UTCAlright! I included the original 'rough' for this page, as it's since changed a bit! I had an artist friend suggest I give Nick a bit more room to breathe and open up the scene (and his legs) as this was our big cage reveal. I sort of compromised, opened it up a bit, AND kept Judy close in, nice and tight, as I love the intimacy and symbolism of Judy being right there, close enough to kiss it. Like... it's something they are doing together, rather than for US.
Eagle-eyed viewers will see that I also changed up the background pencil a bit too. I ended up tightening it a little and removing some of the 'texture' it had before. It's super subtle but means the pencils feel... tighter. Something that was bothering me with page 1 was... just the quality of the background lines, felt more amateurish than I'd envisioned, so this is just my first attempt at dialing it in a bit further. I still want it to feel like a 101 Dalmations background piece, or something out of one of the official comics; so I don't want the backgrounds to lose all their grit...
So far I'm happy with the change! But let's see how it feels with the inks on top. They might blend more than I hoped, but let's see!
I can already tell I'll need to shrink Nicks head down a bit, and I'm not sure where I want his elbow, but everything else feels really good to me so far =D Hope you all like seeing Nicks cageeeeed.

I see you had fun designing different cage brands, these could me merch in the future XD
