I think it’s also worth remembering that Luffy has never been one to dwell on details. He didn’t talk about Ace or Garp until they became relevant, he never spoke about Sabo, and he’s never once asked about his mum. The crew understand this. Their lack of probing isn’t indifference, it’s familiarity. That quiet, passive reaction is actually a sign of how close they are to him, and it fits Luffy’s personality perfectly.
