I have spent so much time working and thinking about this project, now that I am sharing it I am unsure what I should say. My impulse is to just give the thought process for everything
I am always fascinated with how media handles things like text messages, specifically movies. For those, since they move so fast, I think having the text pop up on the screen next to the character's is fun and increases the legibility. I feel fortunate to be able to just have a static phone screen on a comic since it isn't moving.
I wanted Colby's outfit design to reflect someone who has just set out on their own; it has the feeling that they have been wearing it for many years without giving it too much thought. I love detailed outfits but obviously the more detailed you make it the harder it is to continue its design throughout a sequential piece of media. At this stage, I wanted him to feel like he is wearing something that I could have worn when I was younger and putting less thought into outfits. Not even in a "this looks bad" way, just a "he doesn't think too much about it" way. Those layered t-shirt+long sleeve combos feel so quinetessentially 2010s. I have been seeing them make a bit of a resurgence, I remember they used to sell shirts sewn together like that, like it was all one piece. Glad that stopped haha.
Anyways he is named Colby like a cheese.
No real reason for that other than it's cute.
