Manga Book Club - DUNGEON MESHI THIS MONTH

Hey all! We're getting ready for another BOOK CLUB.

This time around we'll be reading all 14 volumes of Dungeon Meshi in one sitting. We'll be sitting down to talk about it on January 28th, which is a Sunday. This club meeting will also have me, Bo, and Aloha, and will be exclusively streamed to $5+ patrons.

We'd love you to join us! After the rampant sexism of One Piece, a manga by a woman should be a real palette cleanser. Aha. Food joke.

The manga can all be purchased legally from most major retailers like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Comixology.

If, for whatever reason, you are not interested in purchasing it, you might consider installing Ublock Origin on your browser (which you should have anyways) and googling "Read Dungeon Meshi online". I am not allowed to give explicit links or suggestions, but I'm sure something will pop up.

Manga Book Club - DUNGEON MESHI THIS MONTH

Comments

Discussion thought - Minor Spoilers: One thing that I think a lot about these days looking at Dungeon Meshi through the lens of listening to the bookclub going through all of One piece (though not reading along all the way, originally I stopped reading serially around the end of Fishman island) is how "efficient" Dungeon Meshi is, and I mean that mostly in a positive way. The story is extremely sharp and to the point, almost every moment is important for something to come later or has meaningful purpose in the world- or character building. But it is so sharp that I'm not even sure its fully a positive thing. I feel like characters that are less outspoken or has more mellow personalities almost become "min/maxed" versions of themselves to facilitate the story in the most "effecient" way. For example, Senshi and Izutsumi to me felt like they suffered because of this. It didn't take away from my enjoyment of the manga, if anything I want to see more of all the characters and the world, I just wonder if I feel like this because it come straight off the back of One piece which is so stupidly bloated with its characters and storytelling a lot of the time. What are you all's thoughts about this? And let me add; Dungeon Meshi is an amazing manga, and it's among the best I have read, so this is not out of hate but to discuss something that lingered for me after I finished my read.

HairyDisguise

HairyDisguise

I'm halfway through, and I gotta say, it's nice to be reading something that's been consistently good so far.

Act One

I don't have an exact time but we usually start some time between 12 and 4pm PST. It's entirely going to depend on my availability that week.

JelloApocalypse

If you liked the manga I'd recommend reading "Delicious in Dungeon World Guide: The Adventurer's Bible". It gives further insight into the world and the characters

Kradolpher

Eremiss

Is there going to be a questionnaire similar to the one at the end of your ONE PIECE reading?

Pierre Chanliau

Do we know what time the bookclub stream will be? I loved the one piece streams, despite not reading along, but this time I read all of Dungeon meshi hoping to participate. I'm from Europe so I hope that it's at a time that allows me to take part. Otherwise I'm gonna write out my thoughts here before the stream. Love all the content you make, and even if I can't join live, I can promise I will watch it first chance I get!

HairyDisguise

yes! so excited! decided to grab the physical copies this time around and they arrived yesterday and look so clean…

Foxowl

Just finished "Please have a meal" so another fantasy related cooking focused story might be interesting grabbed Vol 1 and I'll give it a read.
