turns out, i was totally right about the anti-psychotic dulling my imagination, and by extension motivation, because i'm feeling great getting off of it! progress has been going super well, and i've planned out literally all of development on Boy Arena. specifically, every single week of development has been broken down and planned out ahead of time, so i'll never be lost on what to do next!
better yet, this week is proof that i actually have a reasonable expectation of what i can do and that i'll actually be able to do what i planned, because this was the first planned-out week of development and i finished everything i wanted to! the most notable of that being...
2 new grenades
3 new "specials" (a comeback mechanic unique to your loadout that you get if you get fragged often, even more often if theres a big gap between you and 1st place)
8 new weapons
the "loadout" select system for various non-party gamemodes
a whoooole lot of bugfixes and little adjustments, including to the jumping and floor collision physics, to fix bugs and make the game feel a lot better!
so with that knowledge, how long will development take? given how things have been going, and what i have planned out, it should take about 13 weeks, or just over 3 months total! this could take less time, this could take more time.. the only thing thats really left up in the air that leaves the exact "time to complete" uncertain is making the maps/levels, which may be the longest part of developing Boy Arena. both map design, and detailing all of the maps to look nice! i'll be getting a better idea of what it'll take within the next week, since i'll be starting on the first 2 "true" maps for the game!
so here's the big plans for next week, since that's already been planned out as well!
moving platforms that synchronize nicely between clients
various level mechanics: ladders, bounce pads, player launchers, teleporters, hazards
"super weapon" pickups + a few "super weapons", each of them being completely unique weapons that are extremely powerful and announce to the entire server when they're ready to be picked up!
block-outs for 2 new maps!
nothing too crazy for now, but things are going to get a lost more interesting in the weeks following when all of the basic functionality is out of the way and i can start on the real staple of the game, the "Party Deathmatch" mode, which will be all sorts of crazy!
