Big Dogs

Getting much quicker at doing the colored stuff. There was a bit of a gap between posts, I am head down on personal and CT art for the most part - lots of stuff in the queue.

The new coloring style's speed has been very motivating, and I do have some larger pieces in the works once I have a break in the CT grind - I know how much everyone loves sequences (also a bunch of fun pieces with a ton of text).

Sketches included, I'm interested in hearing feedback on the color style! Still learning my way around it. Are you guys enjoying more color in the gallery?

Those are definitely some of the good ones! :B

Wat

Ohh this is very pleasant looking! Especially the Balgair, Thanksgryphin Malcome, and the Gewn heads!

Some Foxy

She also makes the biggest cupcakes :V

Wat

Is that a challenge? Hug competition, right here, right now! Me vs. Gwen! (Definitely not a cover for getting the most supreme hugs ever.)

Forvet

Gwen gives the *best* hugs.

Wat

Well Kullax, you weren't around on streams to suggest any collars when I was sketching them :V

Wat

Maku is playing on a 3rd party controller again.

Wat

Yeah, not much I can do about that, always have the one-drive link though!

Wat

Are the dogs not big enough? V:

Wat

Thank you! :B

Wat

It's a cat :V

Wat

Just a mascot? :V

Wat

That big puppy made me very happy. :D I bet she gives warm hugs.

Forvet

I like the colouring. Would love it even more if you had collaring as well (not a single collar in this post? I should riot!)

The first three images are WEBP files. All the others after them are PNG like normal, and the ones in the OneDrive link are fine. It's something weird that's been happening since mid Feb, where Patreon ends up converting some art uploads in the post itself into WEBP instead. Not sure if this is intentional or a glitch in the backend. I try multiple browsers and it's the same result. It's been happening to other artists as well.

Ummmmm you labeled this post Big Dogs and yet the landing thumbnail is a picture that includes the word Cat 38 times *Adjusts glasses

Big tiddy fox Balgair should be the new mascot for behind the scenes and extras stuff for Changling Tale. Gotta see more of that.

It's an attempt at a new method different from previous ways I color stuff. Speedpainting was rough at first but refined into something, I always felt it was a lot like clay sculpting because I was 'cutting' into the art and then smoothing out the remaining parts. I wasn't beholden to linework. This new method is a lot like my formula coloring style where each layer has a specific purpose - the difference is, instead of worrying about what that purpose is I'm sort of being intentionally rough to prevent me from getting too detailed. That's why I use such a rough brush. There is a tiny bit of painting on top in some of the pics, but I am using this as a replacement for posting sketches with a white fill, it's not intended to be the full color style I usually do for coloring stuff since that is usually about 30+ layers and being more meticulous with details and lighting. Basically I just got tired of posting all of my art with sketch + white fill. This takes very little time to do for each sketch usually, but it's much more appealing than a basic sketch post. It's not intended to look like the best art I've done, backgrounds will be basic, the color isn't accurate to characters, they don't have a ton of value depth, but I think it's a good compromise between my more time consuming color styles (paints or layering) while still having a lot of feeling. I would say the biggest difference between this and painting is that the focus on these colored pics is still on the sketch itself. I think the sketch intentionally comes through more in this style. The sketch isn't being rendered out of the pictures like it is in the other two styles, if that makes sense. Usually the sketch is something to work on top of for those and it's holding the picture back, in this style almost everything is under the sketch and I want to see the style of the sketch more clearly.

Wat

Does this coloring style derive from the way you approached your old speedpaints back in the day? Or is it an altogether new approach?
