How Are We Doing? Improve MinnMax With This Quick Content Survey

Looking back on your feedback last year, here are some things you wanted and (hopefully) how we delivered...

You requested more travelogues, so in 2024 we made more travelogues than ever. We even launched a new series called MinnMax Spotlight that hopefully has the fun of a travelogue combined with sharing some insight from game developers.

You requested for us not to burn out and for Ben Hanson (me) to delegate more work, so Leo Vader took over New Show Plus production, Haley MacLean rebooted our Patreon-exclusive Monday show by launching Bonus Pod, Michael Huber from Easy Allies began hosting Trivia Tower episodes, and we had Jacob Geller, Kyle Hilliard, and Alex Van Aken host their own Deepest Dives.

You requested more gameplay streams so we had Janet and Michael Huber playing through Resident Evil: Revelations 2 together in LA, Sarah and Haley entering Silent Hill 2, and Leo and Haley's Red Dead role-play streams. We even launched a new gameplay-focused series called Max Settings by partnering with Nvidia and we hope to bring you many more episodes in 2025.

We asked you what you wanted from a new MinnMax studio and you said you wanted something cozy yet professional. You said we shouldn't waste a lot of money on too big/elaborate of a studio space. We kicked off our fifth anniversary with the new studio's debut and we're looking forward to a lot more get-togethers there in 2025.

You wanted more in-person content with us hanging out together, so we planned a big trip to Asheville.... right when Hurricane Helene destroyed the town. We quickly pivoted to replacing the trip with a charity stream and you all raised over $22,000 to help the town recover. We did fly Haley and Jacob out to Minneapolis though for our Give To The Max stream in November, together we raised over $65,000 to help single moms in Minneapolis. We also brought you behind-the-scenes of that entire trip in this travelogue. And on the in-person front, a huge thanks to everybody in the community who came out to our meetups in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, and Minneapolis.

You said we should just try to surface our passion for games as much as possible, so we did stuff like a multi-part Max Spoilers on Metaphor: ReFantazio, Ben showing off his obscure favorite arcade game to JeffM, or even this special episode of The MinnMax Show where we went back to play older games.

When GameStop killed Game Informer this year, thanks to your support we were able to partner with folks laid off and paid them to help make some content for MinnMax. We also launched a whole series of content with The Celebration of Game Informer, where we tried to document as much of the magazine's history as we could. We have one more documentary to release about Game Informer to cap off that celebration.

You wanted more developer interviews, hoping they'd do better traffic-wise. We were happy this year to pick up the baton from Game Informer and revive Rapid-Fire Interviews. We love the format and can't wait to record more in 2025.

You wanted us to surface our content better, so we created regular clips for Instagram and TikTok (give us a follow!) You requested regular Best Ofs, so we got Charles Harte to cut together a highlight reel every quarter. Here are some links!

All that being said, we're far from perfect and there's a million things we could improve upon and create. Above all we're emphasizing sustainability as an outlet and a group, so forgive us for not sprinting in as many directions as the results of this survey will likely request. We're doing our best and feel really great about the future. We have several things planned for 2025 that will be a fun surprise, with one of them coming up next week!
