2024-11-13 22:32:48 +0000 UTCI finally bit the bullet and bought a Quest 3S, my introduction to VR. It has been such a hit with my wife and kids, none of whom are really gamers. It makes me think that VR (especially the quest) should be marketing itself as an accessible family fun machine, like the Wii, rather than another device for gamers. I realize local multiplayer is a barrier, but we have had fun just watching each other play. Am I nuts?

One player is given a generic looking vehicle and they have to try to blend into the NPC traffic on the map to avoid getting detected by the team of seekers. I’ve concluded it wasn’t the genre I liked, but other aspects of the game independent of the genre. What’s a game that is a favorite even though you don’t like the genre that much?

Gears 4 reveal got me excited as the Gears of War franchise was huge blindspot for me. So I played 1,2,3, judgement and even watched the E3 trailers in between each game. All this to buy Gears 4 day one and I still haven’t taken it out of the shrink wrap.

This was Amy Henning's debut game as a designer and it is a weird platformer where you have to rescue your teammates from a mad scientist. Gatorade and Wheaties were health pickups. You would dunk and shatter glass backboards for check points. MJ never made it into NBA Jam but had this weird platformer. Which athlete/celeb would you design a whole platformer around?

I usually go for the default in games when possible. For pets I try to match the personality with something kind of silly. My child's name was obviously a collaborative effort, but the requirements were that the names have to be unique, not too odd, and sound good in English and Spanish. Thanks and enjoy the holidays.

It all started on September 27th when ChazCheeto shared a "Top 50 RPGs of All Time" list from svg.com that included Quest 64. There was a lot of fun jokes and conversation about the game, and eventually the mods decided to open a Quest 64 channel. Of course they put it in the archived section of the server so nobody could actually post there. This was all in great fun, but I was inspired. I decided that once a day I would post a single, innocent message saying "Day ## of asking for access to the Quest 64 channel." Several people showed their support, while others questioned how long I'd be willing to keep up the effort. Well, this week, on day 40, the mods decided to give the server some joy by opening up the Quest 64 channel for everyone to share in the fun. And I was finally able to post the one and only message I really, really wanted to say: "Quest 64 sucks" For real, thanks to the community and the mods (and especially Haley) for making the MinnMax Discord server the best place on the internet. If you've been a listener for a while but haven't yet checked out the Patreon, maybe try it out for just one month. Is there a board game or card game from your youth that you now realize you were playing completely wrong at that time? When I went to summer camp, there were groups of kids that would play Mancala with me and told me that the way I had learned to play it was wrong. Looking at the instructions now I realize that I was originally playing it the correct way but wound up playing it incorrectly for years because of peer pressure.

I recently had a discussion with my mom about the impact and power of gaming after she saw the Netflix movie The remarkable life of Ibelin. She said it changed her perspective on how gaming can give you an opportunity to connect and escape from your reality. However, upon discussing it further, she continued to still believe that video games are very violent, do not have much substance and that gamers are not a welcoming community simply based on lack of coverage in the mainstream news. She also says that she feels there are not a lot of resources out there for people to be able to start gaming at a later age. I would love to hear the cohort perspective on how to show older and skeptical people the benefit of gaming and encourage them to participate in the hobby.

Arcane being at the forefront and the Cyberpunk show not being talked about enough. Scores need to be submitted for nominations, which means most indie games and games from other countries like Japan might not have been nominated. When I tried part time streaming my then 3 year old wanted to play so I got on torrent and let her play. She has even taken out bosses on her own somehow. I kinda liked my ending better! Are there any games or movies you had thought were going in a completely different direction where you had thought you had a better ending for? And what was it? You don't have to spoil the real ending, but rather what you thought was going to happen or how it was going to end.

2024-11-12 19:57:13 +0000 UTCHey Gang - I haven’t played a new Call of Duty game in years but decided to give Black Ops 6 campaign a try because it was on Game Pass (Boo Monopolies). I was shocked how good it was, especially in the second half where a horror themed mission is introduced. A fight in “Administration” might be up there for the best moment! It felt like the COD team really wants to make a genre outside of a military shooter. If Activision could give the same type of budget to that team but to make a different genre of game, what would you want to play?

The making of NBA Jam would also be cool, especially if it came with other Midway sports games from that time. But we’re also due for a modern Midway compilation.
