Listening is so important. I love to hear this and a skill I am always working on

Yes I was like that often too

I am so sorry you had this experience with your grandfather and thank you for sharing. I really appreciated reading this powerful share

As a kid, [12-14] I realized nothing I did was good enough for my grandfather. I quit trying to please him or others. The few people that I care about are the opinions that matter to me. ~ that grandfather refused the invitation to my wedding, he wanted me to leave the reception to give me money..... Those that showed up for me, are the ones I care about. *If we are not mostly happy with ourselves, we have nothing to spare for others. <3

Lovely. My best coping strategy has always been keeping quiet. This allows others to voice their opinions and I can decide whether to voice my own opinion.

A lot of the "internalizing" I did, when I was younger, taught me to listen to folks around me and give them the time to express themselves.
