MONSTERS [2x6] | EXTENDED REACTION

Today we take a flash back to look at Jose and Kitty Menendez. Odd behaviors, generation cycles of abuse, and just more uncomfortable bits honestly. With 3 episodes remaining, I'll be honest and say I'm not sure yet what all the outrage is yet. We still will be looking into the real case (do you guys like the new Netflix Documentary? some have requested we watch it) but aside from maybe saying "they weren't exactly like that" personality wise and the few bits about Erik sort of being unsure about his sexuality, this show has in no way painted these brothers out as pure villains. But we'll see what's to come still! Off to celebrate Bridgette's birthday, may stream a little tonight so keep an eye out!

MONSTERS [2x6] | EXTENDED REACTION

Comments

it would be amazing if you watched the netflix documentary, for sure

Lia Roslyn

i would love to see your reaction to the new netflix documentary

phoebe

after you finish this show I would love to see a reaction to the documentary that just came out, it’s really really good

elena

The documentary of the brothers dropped recently was really good and it has the brothers and prosecutor telling the story, I hope you guys check it out after finishing the series. I have some dislikes about the series but I will wait to share that till the end, right now it's mostly stemming from Ryan Murphy's statements about it along certain tidbits.

mya

key words "to my knowledge" to make a comment not knowing the entire story or all the facts of the case is a bit naive to me.

mya

This comment makes me SO HAPPY cause I am so tired of the “there wasn’t any ACTUAL evidence” like there was plenty I watched ALL of the trial. It was just ignored as simple as that.

Iriana F

I beg you guys to react to the documentary it’s REALLY good

Iriana F

The documentary on Netflix is good but it's only 2hrs and it doesn't go in every single detail but for a reaction if you guys wanted to do one it's good. Hearing erik and lyle talk about everything is very heartbreaking.I would also suggest watching Erik tells all A&E but you guys can do that on your own time because that is like 5 or 6 episodes. If you don't want to react to a series

Medical records, pictures with their heads cut off, family members saying they aren't allowed to go to the room or the same floor that joss and the boys were in and if they did kitty would stop them. Lyle when he was 14 wrote a essay for school about a father on death row for molesting his son which is around the Same age lyle said he start suspecting something was happening to Erik. Family members also said the father used to shower with the boys, 4 months before the murders lyle told a friend that him and erik were both molested, which that said friend got up on the stand for the prosecution and lied and said lyle didn't Tell him that but got impeached with a recording with a interview he did after the murders. A couple weeks after the murders Erik told a interview Erik that the father was showering with him and at the first the interview Erik thought Erik was joking. Also Erik and lyle when kids told cousins. SA Abuse happens behind closed doors and they already have more evidence than most women so ofc there aren't going to be witness testimony or a video . Also the emotional and physical abuse from both parents which multiple people testified to. Family, teachers, neighbors, coaches.

Amaya

And it was not premeditated. If it was, they would’ve had an actual alibi.

NeneSays

- multiple family members testified that they were never allowed upstairs when Jose was in one of the brothers bedrooms, one aunt even testified to believing she saw Erik after after he had been raped, 2 cousins testified to being told by the brothers separately about their SA (Lyle told Diane & Erik told Andy), Erik wrote a letter to his cousin Andy mentioning the abuse that is now being considered since it was uncovered years after Andy passed. And the witnesses all testified to the physical abuse they suffered which was also horrible (punching a 5 yr old in the chest to name 1 incident) - there’s a lot of medical records of injuries from both brothers that corroborate the physical abuse they suffered AND there’s medical records showing Erik had a throat injury consistently found in oral rape victims. Dentists are now trained to look for this type of injury to report to CPS. - kitty had a folder of photos that included naked photos of the brothers with their faces cut off and focusing on their genitalia….this was included in the trial - lyle & Erik both exhibited traits consistently found in abused children (bed wetting, playing w dolls, being withdrawn, extreme anxiety, losing hair & etc) experts on child abuse & CSA went over all of this and their family history and determined their cases were severe before even being disclosed their names….then they spent collectively more than 200 hours interviewing them (multiple experts) and they all came to the conclusion that they had been severely mentally, physically, emotionally AND sexually abused. You really think you’re smarter and know more than experts that actually spent hours evaluating them, interviewing people that knew them & also had all their records & their parents records at their disposal? (This includes interviewing Kitty’s therapist & her therapy notes btw)

NeneSays

At least to my knowledge, there is no evidence as well as their is no witness tesimonie that even comes close to the brothers horrible accusations. Its clear that the parents were at least some kind of abusive and bad parents but the accusations are nothing but that. Accusations. To give people the benefit of the doubt that brutally and premeditated killed their parents is naive to me. But lets see what the retrial brings.

MO

16:00 the notepad should just say "Jose definitely can't solve a rubix cube"

Nick b

There actually is evidence & witness testimonies to back up the brother’s claims but none to back up the parents not being terrible human beings. Hope that helps x

NeneSays

@MO Besides everything I just said? It took 26 sessions with a therapist for Erik to open up about the abuse & Lyle even longer….they were facing the death penalty at this point but still wouldn’t talk about it. In fact they just kept saying how great their parents were & how much they loved them…. Even Kitty’s sister Joan stands by the brothers today and said she forgives the brothers but not Kitty. Their family (who are also Jose & Kitty’s family) still support them and believe them. If you can watch the witness testimonies & the brother’s testimonies and not be convinced then you probably lack empathy. And pair that with the evidence that was presented and also not allowed in the trials (Lyle’s 17 pg letter to Erik, his essay written at 14 about a man being put to death for killing his sons rapist)…..how can you not believe them? And to this day with so little hope of ever getting out, they choose to dedicate themselves to being positive & productive people. Lyle is working on his masters in urban planning I believe, has been involved in the inmate government at Mule creek prison. He’s spearheading a beautification project, has helped other inmates w/ their cases & works with SA survivors in prison. He’s stays connected to SA/CSA survivors w/ his wife’s help and he’s very kind & supportive. Check out his Facebook page! Erik is much more private but has a YT channel (Justice Watchdog) where his wife used to upload some audios of him and he talked about the programs & projects he works on. He created “V.I.V.E” (victim impact & victim empathy) where he teaches perpetrators of abuse to feel empathy for their victims. He also started a program for elderly & disabled inmates. He’s also working on his bachelors in sociology (same degree as Lyle)! And he’s an amazing artist and is also working on the beautification project with Lyle using his talent! He’s painted a bunch of murals. And this is just SOME of the stuff they’ve done. They are really amazing people.

NeneSays

can you tell me why you believe them exactly?

MO

you guys should watch the new documentary on netflix about them

wishyouwerebillie

Happy birthday Bridgette!!! 💙🌻

Brittany Mosley

A documentary came out about the Menendez brothers. And there you won’t be confused on what are theories and rumors

kei

Hey Cody&Bridge, the first 5 episodes and the next few are different perspectives but visualized in scenes. So you cant assume that everything you saw the mom or the dad do the first 5 episodes is correct and what really happened. It was the perspective/story of the boys. I guess the showwriters mean to show us how we dont know what is actually true, especially the accusations of the brothers, since there is no real evidence. Hope that makes you a little less biased.

MO

I don't think it was about them being villians but simply just portraying them as completely different human beings. While the characters in the show are engaging as tv characters.. that's not how they were as people by all accounts and just overall footage. It feels like Ryan Murphy went into it making his own account of what he thinks happened vs what happened. The Dahmer season was closer to reality despite minor changes in the grand scheme

Zee

Please do the livestream where you check out facts and watch the new Netflix documentary that Erik and Lyle participated in!

alex ツ

I hope you guys watch the documentary on Netflix about the Menendez brothers. This was told by the brothers themselves and its just very insightful and more accurate. It came out yesterday.

lovelyminyoongi

Just to add to this, it is more of a documentary for people who are new to the case and doesn’t really do a deep dive/leaves a lot out. So if y’all do this I do hope there will still be a stream in which you dive deeper into the case!

Mir

deffo react to the documentary guys!!!

rachael

“Not exactly like that” is putting it lightly. They portrayed Lyle as a pathological liar, a cokehead & a maniac. They made him seem damn near abusive to Erik. They also were very heavy handed with making Erik gay which is not true at all with 0 evidence to back it up. This show also HEAVILY sexualizes them when theyre survivors of CSA. That not disgusting to yall?? And This show is so clearly written in a way that you can tell the creator (RM) does not believe them. This is especially made clear by him choosing to exclude the new evidence in the show when it was made public years ago. There was more than 51+ witnesses to a lot of the abuse they suffered + have evidence to corroborate it yet RM chose to focus on the POV of a man who hated them before he even met them or heard their stories?? A man who paid someone to lie about Lyle? A proven fraud?? Why not focus on the POV of Robert Rand, who met their aunt Martha right after the killings? Who has been following the case from the beginning and interviewed witnesses from both sides & even testified himself? Who’s had hours of convos w both brothers and actually met with them BEFORE they were arrested??? And the changes…there’s so much going back all the way to ep 1. -Like the convo in the limo with the secretary about the shoes. She did claim that & she was the 1 witness out of 50+ to say anything remotely nice about Jose. The defense team had a video of Lyle at the memorial with green boots on, completely debunking her lie. - LIVE entertainment set up the memorial & chose to play milly vanilli- NOT the brothers (Jose was a fan) - Lyle started losing his hair at 14 not when he was 18/19. That’s when he was made to get the toupee. - also left out him peeing his bed until 14 & playing with stuffed animals until he was 17. These are clear signs of an abused child. - left out the fact that they could not be indicted for killing for financial gain - they also conveniently left out Erik spending months at his cousins after the killings bc he was so suicidal & how Lyle was just a shell of himself - they also left out Lyle declining to be executor of the will & getting permission from his uncle and encouragement from family to make some of the purchases he did - The escape attempt? Never happened. The 17 page letter found was heartfelt and nothing like they portrayed. Lyle basically admitted to the killings (this was before they admitted to the SA) and told Erik he’d rather get the death penalty than talk about the SA but he was leaving the decision to Erik. He also wrote to Erik to burn it but it was too precious to him so he kept it. - This show also made light of medical records of Erik’s indicating he had throat injuries at the age of 7 consistent w/ oral rape victims. Dentist are now trained to look for these sign in kids & are required to report it for investigation. - the Norma tapes were not incriminating or contradictory to Lyle’s testimony - Erik’s mom was not checking his genitalia bc she thought he was gay. It was when his dad was having a lot of “rough sex” with him. He would tie up his penis which would cause blisters & she would pop them…..this happened around 11-14 yrs old, not when he was living in Cali. This is just scratching the surface and even the documentary couldn’t cover all of it. It’s definitely a must watch tho if you don’t know much about the case and supported this sick version of their traumatic lives. They also have a companion podcast coming Wednesday (interviews not included in the doc).

NeneSays
