Torchwood Season 4 - Finale

Comments

Your right, I never thought about the fact that Jack was mortal. And the possible reason for that. I just assumed, it was the opposite of the rest of the world, just like it has been before the miracle started. Just the other way around. But you´re right. It was never really explained....hmmmm I enjoyed the Rex storyline, too. :) I think my favorite season is the "Children of earth one". I really liked that premisse and how it turned out to be. Also certain one off stories of the first two seasons. :) Thank you, for keeping me company while beeing on this Torchwood journey. It was pleasure :)

I absolutely agree with you. This season was too long. And the explanation too poor. I guess I didn´t have a problem with the 456, and missing information about them. Because they were alien. They don´t need too much explanation. Humans don´t understand aliens and their reasonings, and that´s ok. But the fact that this "beeing" wasn´t extraterrestial didn´t sit right with me. I mean, it looks alien, it works extraterrestrial, but it´s not? That doesn´t make any sense. And it´s also kind of weird for a show like Torchwood, to do such a thing. Because this has been an alien show to begin with. Hmmm...I don´t understand their motives....I really don´t. Thank you so much for your thoughts about this finale. I really appreciate you sharing them with me. And also thank you for the compliment :)

That´s such a nice comment, thank you :) I didn´t know, that this wasn´t supposed to be the series finale. That makes sense. Well, it would be nice, if one day they would continue with another season. But I don´t really think it will happen. Also thank you about the information of the audio drama :) I also enjoyed this journey, together woth every single one of you :)

"The future can change. It's being written right now.", Captain Jack, "Torchwood: Miracle Day - The Blood Line" I like big stories. I like small stories too, but I also like the big ones. However, when there is a big story there is much more opportunity to leave plot holes hanging and for the story to feel slightly shallow and unsatisfying. I have lots of questions about the plot as well. For example, I'm not sure I understand how Captain Jack became mortal during the Miracle. I understand that we need "mortal" blood to reverse it, story-wise, and we only have one mortal person left - but I don't think it was ever made clear to me why Captain Jack became mortal when the rest of the world because immortal. But, probably best not to get too absorbed by those plot details. However, I did like the twist of making Rex the surprise container of Captain Jack's blood - I didn't see that coming. As was pointed out above, the Torchwood show wasn't intended to just stop here - which explains why it feels open ended. There are audio adventures and audiobooks that are set in the aftermath of the Miracle day series - although I haven't listened to them. So, "Miracle Day" was an interesting concept and fun to watch but in the end I think I preferred the short, punchy one-off stories from the first two seasons or the concentrated epic of "Children of Earth". Thank you for sharing your Torchwood journey with us.

OK, sooo..... I definitely agree with you that this is the weakest, or at any rate, the least satisfying series of Torchwood. Clearly the idea was to emulate the grand impact of Children of Earth by having a mysterious but terrifying threat to our planet and a story that unfolds throughout the series. And the writers came up with a brilliant premise: i.e. people just stop dying. Then they plotted a series of stages in our moral decline because of it. So far so good. But they somehow failed to appreciate that Children of Earth having just five episodes was what gave it focus. They also failed to give the crisis an explanation that we could sufficiently understand. I say "sufficiently" because although we didn't know exactly what sort of creatures the 456 were or how they used the children for their drugs, we knew what they wanted, why they wanted it and what they were threatening. Plus, of course the ending was almost unbearably tragic and dramatic and featured a moral dilemma that provokes intense soul searching and even argument. Miracle Day has loads of good points of course. Like I said the premise seemed full of potential and some of it was fulfilled. The gradual decline into the Category 1 horror seemed all too plausible and I couldn't fault the acting at all. The cast were great. Jack and Gwen of course but the others were too. Bill Pullman as Oswald Danes was horribly convincing. To a point where I imagine having trouble viewing him as any other character. But ten episodes was far too many, there was too much "filler" and the explanation at the end seemed far too muddled. I still enjoyed watching (and now re watching) it for all the good points but it could have been made so much better. Loved your reactions.

This is the finale, and not only the season finale, but the final episode of the entire series, which ends with a cliffhanger... How can this be? Because there would have been a fifth season, maybe even more. But for several reasons, the series was interrupted, but not officially canceled!. Many are still waiting for the fifth season. The first episode of which was filmed, but never aired. Just like Doctor Who "The Parting of the Ways" (lost alternate ending) in which the 9th Doctor does NOT regenerate BUT Rose dies. (the TARDIS scan Rose only for the TARDIS to display the message "LIFEFORM DYING", providing a cliff-hanger for the second series. But there was no sequel here, or was it? It was released as an audio drama in 2017. How will you ever be seen on TV? The chances of this are low, but not zero... Torchwood, my life became more complete because I traveled with you! Thank You Very Much!
