"LOVER'" TAYLOR ALBUM REACTION LIVE SHOW

"LOVER'" TAYLOR ALBUM REACTION LIVE SHOW

Comments

I would love if the lyrics are up

sarah melville

I'm rewatching this and does anyone else feel like Audrey would be an awesome DJ and be great at getting a crowd going?

Jay Johnston

with your reaction to Archer, I feel like I'm such a pain in the ass, no one would want to deal with me. I don't want to deal with me most of the time. I'm surprised even my dog puts up with me.

Amy Winslow

I'm honestly not a massive TS fan, I haven't listened to most of her albums, know mostly the singles she's released, but Lover is the only album of hers I've listened to all the way through and I love it so much! I will have to check out the rest of her discography at some point.

Josh Middleton

I also noticed something now that your playing all the songs - the sound of „I forgot that you existed“ is very similar too „Trouble“ by Iggy Azalea & Jennifer Hudson 😂

Lieslix

I heard from another Swiftie that Lover actually is a breakup-album. So kind of like an upbeat-version from TTPD. This blew my mind. When I am now listening to the song "Lover" now, there are so many things that are sad when you think of it. Like "at every table, I save you a seat" - because he wasn't attending! And so are myn references which seam nice one way but from another perspective totally sad. Also: I am an track-5-girly. Love most of her track-5-songs :-)

Lieslix

I think the reason “The Archer” works even though it never resolves is because it’s thematically appropriate. The song feels anxious, like she’s preparing herself for something, and the sound reflects that. ‘Combat. I’m ready for combat.’ It feels like a racing heart, like gearing up for a confrontation. But it’s so vulnerable that it’s almost like she’s taking OFF armor before the battle, and that’s the source of tension? Like she’s used to fighting and fighting and fighting, but she has to bare her heart and subject herself to the mortifying ordeal of being known in order to be loved. So there’s this really beautiful balance (to me) in the sound that feels like… I don’t know. Choosing to take off your battle armor. Casting aside your sword and shield. The stress of a Shakespearean protagonist performing a soliloquy under a spotlight while the other characters are obscured in the shadows. Will the other person throw aside their armor, too? Or will the lights come back on to reveal this is a tragedy and they’ve been betrayed? That’s what this song is to me, at least. And I like that there’s no resolution, because I (personally) think that it’s about US, her fans. Will WE stay? Because so many turned on her in 2016. In an instant she can go from the top of the world to #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty being the number one trending hashtag worldwide. And that’s without her even DOING anything. A hundred thrown out speeches she almost said to us…about what? (Makes me think of “Dear Reader”…) Anyway. The point is…it can’t resolve, because we’re the only ones (as listeners) who COULD release the tension that’s being drawn as taut as an archer’s bow. And the thematic nature of that gathering anxiety is what makes it work. It’s 1am and I’ve already taken my bedtime meds, so I’m sorry if this is completely incoherent.

Morgan Bauman

I’m still at the beginning of the video, so maybe somebody clarifies this for you later, but Lover came out in 2019. 😅 It’s just that Taylor released folklore AND evermore in 2020, then two rerecordings in 2021, then Midnights in 2022, then two MORE rerecordings while touring in 2023, and then released TTPD this year. Reputation (2017) was after she had gone solidly pop—and it wasn’t well liked by the general public at the time (or at least was poorly received at the Grammy’s), so she went BACK to her more popular 1989 (2014) sound. Hopefully somebody clears this up for you during the video, because it seems like you think she’s fresh out of her country eras, but her last sorta-kinda country album was in 2012, seven years before this was released. And some fans argue Fearless was her last country album, which would have been over a decade before Lover. The talking and laughing and stuff was a kind of throwback sound. I feel like.

Morgan Bauman

Cutting off your nose to spite your face, meaning in trying to cause harm, you ended up mostly/only harming yourself. It's an expression but I think it's very regional.

Sarah Doty

My heart shatters each time I listen to that song even though my parents are alive and well. I just can’t imagine living without my Mom & Dad. I’m so very sorry for your loss. 🥺

DRAINS

I don’t know how much truth there is to this but I think this album was originally supposed to be called Daylight. Then Midnights was supposed to come right after it being kinda opposites. You can hear it in the spoken word part at the end of the song Daylight “I want to remember for the things I love, not what I hate or I am afraid of that haunt me at midnight” (not exactly what she said but that’s the gist of it). But the pandemic happened and she did folklore and evermore instead.

Elizabeth Wilson

I know pretty much all of her songs are autobiographical in varying degrees but Cornelia Street is very much so. You can google the house she rented on Cornelia Street at the start of her relationship with Joe that lasted 6 years. Seeing her sing this song after they broke up on the Eras Tour is heartbreaking.

Elizabeth Wilson

the pop girlies pass Jack around😂😂 and so far I’ve never hated anything he’s produced

Erika

“Bless My Toe” is hilarious cause during secret sessions she said she was thankful nobody gave her and yb a cringe shipname and a fan yelled out “Toe!” and she was like “NOO!”🤣🤣

Erika

and as soon as I typed this, someone in chaat immediately answered your question lol

I Am Not Chamari

I am also commenting as I am watching along so sorry if someone already pointed this out but the voice at the beginning is famous British actor Idris Elba. It was from an interview segment on James Corden's show

I Am Not Chamari

Also, sometimes your sad songs have to bop so you can rage out haha That's why the album version of Death By A Thousand Cuts will always be one of my favorites by her.

I Am Not Chamari

I Forgot That You Existed is one of her most hated songs for some reason, but I always liked it lol Lover is certainly not my favorite by hers, but I love how much you enjoyed it!

I Am Not Chamari

In addition to the Lover era getting cut short by the pandemic and quick release of new music (Folklore and Evermore) I saw at the time this album came out a lot of people were thrown off by how bright and poppy it was compared to Reputation which was the previous album. The sound being not what was expected I believe is what initially caused lukewarm reactions from some and if the Lover era got its full time to shine and we weren’t all stressed by real world events I think it would have really grown on people when it came out. The same thing happened with Reputation after 1989 but Reputation got its full era so it became loved by most fans. It’s funny I kind of think the same thing is happening with Tortured Poets in that the sound is not what people necessarily wanted or predicted so initially a lot of reactions were less than love and even some disappointment. However a lot of those reactors have since said in comments or videos later own how much the album has grown on them and they actually love it. This even happened with someone who reviews albums professionally ( I can’t remember which one). I really think we need stop having strong expectations for what we think a new album will sound to avoid potential disappointment that clouds our judgement of the art that was given to us. Now by no means do I think you need to stop hoping Taylor will someday do an album or song that matches a sound you love. I personally will always carry some hope for a more rock focused album but that hope never detracts from my ability to love whatever direction Taylor has decided to go in.

KyraB

Wow this is funny to me because Lover and Red are two of my favorite albums hahaha and it just goes to show how varied taste is, since I love both so much and you are your sister are flip flopped

rapid-ren

Currently watching this while getting myself organised with my Lover themed outfit for Era's Tour tomorrow! It's Scotland's turn and I am soooo Ready For It!!!!

Leanne W

Cruel Summer was released as a single finally in 2023 because of the Eras Tour. Taylor had always loved it and (as others mentioned) had wanted to release it as a single but never had a chance. In the Eras Tour, Cruel Summer is the first full song performed and reached a number of fans who had never heard it. (Not just people at the concets, but the fans watching videos and livestreams as well). Suddenly it was being streamed more than her other actual singles. So the record label and Taylor decided to capitalize on this and make it an official single in 2023 and now it's one of her most commercially successful songs which is crazy considering it was 4 years after the album came out. It has now been streamed more than Blank Space and Shake it Off.

Mallory Crowe

imagine it being played back to back with AJR's Bummerland lol

Neumann

I might have missed it in comments here or in the reaction—but wanted to be sure you saw that The Chicks were featured on Soon You’ll Get Better on this album 🥹

Andrea

Yeah, can you imagine listening to this summer of 2020? I cant honestly

Meghan

Oh that’s interesting 🧐

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Oh Lord. Soon you'll get better. I was my mom's caregiver for her cancer. This is soooo hard. We did lose her.. Jesus I didn't need this lol. It's been 3 years and I still want her. Never expected to be 37 without parents

Meghan

Hahah! Forever burned into my brain

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I’ll make the announcement 📣

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Mee hee heeeeee!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Oh the chicks really! WOW!!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Oh I’ll take younger!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Rest My Soul is much better than That’s My Toe haha

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Oh that’s good! Bright and happy is nice ❤️

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Oh now that makes sense! I feel like all of her songs are sooooo much better performed live. It’s a whole leveling up experience

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

definitely part of the reason lover is so overlooked is because it never actually got it's moment due to the pandemic and then folklore/evermore coming out rapid fire less then a year later (for folklore, at least.) i've seen some more people going back to it recently and rediscovering it, though! it's got a more melancholy sting to it now with the context of midnights/TTPD

Neumann

Oh shit i'm gonna like this album. It's the first time in my life in a long time that i've been in the place to receive an album this bright and happy

Meghan

One more on this I always heard it as rest my soul

Meghan

This is my first time really listening to lover and I just again, i'm struck that some day.... Retrospectively.... It's gonna be very hard to look back at her with disdain. If you don't have the current cultural obnoxiousness... The sheer variety of the music that she has put out over the years is insane

Meghan

I like the live surprise song version of I think he knows. I It is one of her songs that I really like the production on and I think that it works really well with production, but I just love the way she sang it somehow for some reason.

Meghan

The straight hair and yellow top combo is super pretty btw. Makes you look younger (not that you need to at all)

Shani Gribben

In addition to being a producer, Jack Antonoff is also a performer. He was a member of the band Fun., and now his band is Bleachers. Also, check out the Spotify playlist -" Every Song Produced by Jack Antonoff." It not only includes songs by Fun., Bleachers, but also, Taylor Swift, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, the Chicks, and others.

Katherine

Love your comments about ME!

Katherine

If I hear anything I will let you know 🥹 It’s the 21-23 of June and then 15-17 of August

Lu

I’d like to make a note that she went from Paper Rings to You’re Losing Me in only two years.

Mikala B

Hey just wondering when Danny will post his TTPD reaction? I would love to resubscribe to his channel when he puts that up!🤍😇

Emma Schultz

Loving the love for this album!!! So many bops! Agreed, it’s always so hard to choose, and my faves change based on mood—but TTPD, Rep, and Lover are consistently my faves! Also—never not hearing “that’s my toe” again!!! 😂😂😂

Amy Winslow

OMG, I practically screamed when I saw you respond my comment. I absolutely adore your content and watching your journey becoming a swiftie!

Reese

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I think Lover may have been a delusional song. I think maybe there were some cracks forming, and she really was hoping it could stay good.

Amy Winslow

With the Lover song, seeing it after the fact of the relationship, I think there was some anxiety, even in the beginning. Her asking if she can go with him. Rather than making a statement that she would go with him.

Amy Winslow

It's track number 2 on the album but she didn't release it as a single until the eras tour!

Shanice Nowak

hahah! Totally sounds like it!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Yea Cruel Summer during the pandemic is poor choice of titles

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

oh maybe I can find it

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

perfect choice

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Yep! I've reacted to Me!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

another Lover lover right here hahah

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

It was on the album but it wasn’t released as a single until later

Shani Gribben

I wonder where that phrase comes from?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Yea I think youre right about re-listening to Midnights

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

He is in the other room reacting to the second album of TTPD right this very minute

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I liked that theme within it. Nice thats it's not always about love

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

yess! God I love that movie!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

So it wasn't on the original album?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Words cannot express how happy I am that you heard “that’s my toe” because this is a hill I’ve been dying on for years 🤣😂🤣

Linds K

There is/was a narrative about how Cruel Summer was an ignored hit, but her plan seemed to be to release it in late spring of 2020 leading in to the tour dates ... but obviously all the plans changed and it wouldn't have been a very appropriate song for the time! It was always a clear fan favourite and people were looking forward to a huge production with it at LoverFest, so when it started trending, she put it out as a single and, as others said, it did brilliantly.

Ems

When you said you want to hear her sing London Boy now live she’s doing 6 shows in London ( 3 shows this month ) and I bet a surprise song is London Boy

Lu

Lover was our first dance song when I got married in 2022! 🥰

Meghan Hameister

She reacted to the music video of ME! its around somewhere that you should be able to see it!!!

Lydia Shepard

The fact that Cruel Summer was not a single originally is a crime and we eventually convinced Taylor of this so she dropped it as a single in the last year or so and it proved us right by going insane and I’m pretty sure it’s still hanging out on the charts to this day

Mara Stoll

I feel like It’s Nice to Have A Friend is kind of there as lol a pallet cleanser to bridge the gap between ME! and Daylight, without it there would be too much emotional whiplash, maybe I’m wrong though

Shani Gribben

Audrey you need to see the music videos for ME! and The Man, they’re so hilarious!

Shani Gribben

Lover is one of my favourites too and Red is probably my least favourite tbh. I feel like YNTCD should have been placed earlier in the album. I love the song, don’t get me wrong but the two songs either side of it feel so different that the vibe is kinda weird

Shani Gribben

i’m so glad to finally see someone love lover as much as i do! lover was my favorite for the longest time then got taken over by evermore last year and now ttpd has taken its second place title so lover is comfortably at my third place as of now. but i’m always so sad when people say no one likes lover because i do 🥺 my sister always tells me the liking lover so much is crazy and it’s her second to last favorite album but to be fair i have one of her favorites (Red) as my second to last favorite album. very refreshing to see another Lover lover lol!

Madison Silenzio

Cut of your nose to spite your face is an idiom that is used when someone has an unnecessary self-destructive overreaction to a problem or situation

Martin

LMAO I love you listening to I Think He Knows and thinking she's saying something about that's her toes when she says bless my soul. I have been seated for you to listen to this record and you didn't disappoint! Lover is my top half of TS albums (though I don't know where to put TTPD yet) but I knew you'd like it a lot. Though I do wish you had been able to have lyrics since you mostly focused on the production and style than the lyrics but I assume that's because you weren't reacting to lyric videos this time which is too bad when doing a Taylor album reaction. It's interesting you think Lavender Haze would've been better on Lover; I think you should listen to Midnights, again, and see if you still think that because I don't know if it was the outlier and it's been so long since you listened to Midnights and you didn't know Taylor or her music then really. I think Midnights would be your 3rd favorite once you fully absorbed it again after Lover and Reputation.

Danielle

If any album will turn Danny into a Swiftie, it’s TTPD or maybe folklore long pond sessions

Shani Gribben

Lover was an album from 2019. It was her first owned album after her masters were stolen. Yes, most of the songs do include all about love, but this was also during the time of her political journey, so some of the songs do include politics and social injustices that women have to face.

Reese

It’s funny we think of this album as being put out a long time ago because Taylor has released so much in recent years that it is many albums ago but Lover is not even 5 years old yet. It was released 8/23/19

KyraB

The Leo DiCaprio movie you’re thinking of is Wolf of Wall Street

Shani Gribben

Cruel summer had a big comeback because she released it as a single a few years after the album
