TAYLOR SWIFT MIDNIGHTS FULL ALBUM REACTION

Comments

HEY! I'm new here, just subscribed. What a great video! Your reactions are so truthful. Thank you for sharing all that with us 🩷 I had a lot to say, but most of it was already said by other swifties. So, I will only say that I could not agree more with you about the creepiness in the relationships with a huge age difference. Have you heard the song "29" by Demi Lovato? It's another great song about these relationships. It's like you said, yes, there are exceptions. But those are EXCEPTIONS, not the rule. I had a small fling with a much older man when I was 15, I think he was 28 at the time (that's not illegal where I am from, it would only be if I was 13 or under). I ended things pretty fast, so he was not really important in my life, but a few years ago, when I was about his age, it caught up to me on how fucked up that was. On how and why the fuck was he into me. Anyhow, I would love to see your reactions to Demi's song!

Marina Ribeiro

I have always thought bigger than the whole sky is about a miscarriage. "Did some bird flap it's wings over in Asia" = stork and even the chorus seems pretty obvious that this is what it's about. "I'm never going to meet what could've, would've been you" doesn't really apply to anything else as well as it does to a miscarriage. Which is very brave for her to release a song that's that vulnerable.

Hannah McMillin

right where you left me is the BEST SONG truly

Sophie

Midnights is also about her reflecting on her past so Bigger than the whole sky could of also been about her friend she had that died of addiction and she made the song Forever Winter from Red about.

Ashley Murphy

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the actresses that play the evil step sisters in Bejewled are actually the HAIM sisters. They have a song with Taylor on her album "Evermore", called "No Body, No Crime". I think you'll really love that song when you get to Evermore. Love your Taylor reactions btw!! You're quite possibly the only reactor that I've ever watched a 4 hour video for, in its entirety hahahaha. ❤️🥰

Tyler Asberry

Afraid someone might have already said this, but High Infidelity is about Calvin Harris and her moving on with Tom Hiddleson at the Met Gala. April 29th is the infamous day of Calvin’s interview where he was asked if he would ever collab with Taylor and he responded with a harsh “no, never” like answer…twist is, Taylor wrote his most popular hit that he was being praised for in said interview (This is What You Came For with Rihanna…his best song imo). Taylor told him to use her pen name in the credits but I think he misinterpreted her request of secrecy a little too serious and added a dickhead “No, never” when he should’ve said something like “You never know…regardless, she is a talented artist and I’m proud of her.” Dude just didn’t think and then was petty when he called out Taylor vis Twitter when the whole “snake” era happened. I also realized in the lyrical video you’re watching, it’s referencing a DJ the entire time. I also realized recently that her fake kid in Anti Hero with the podcast looks like a diss on Calvin as well haha.

Boone_girl

Loving your Taylor reactions! Currently watching the Midnights review and wanted to note that Bigger Than the Sky has been open to interpretation but a lot of listeners who’ve gone through miscarriages and the loss of a child are relating to it the most. I thought I also saw it somewhere that it was a song for a fan’s mother who lost her daughter to leukemia and Taylor met them a few times in person at her concerts when she was still alive. I can’t unhear it as a love song to your late child now that I know this…it almost makes the song even more beautiful and definitely more complex.

Boone_girl

Maroon is absolutely my favorite on the album. It has themes that match up with Cornelia Street on Lover, which I think would be interesting for you to look into. Both are very LGBTQ in my opinion, but I'm new here so I don't know where you stand on the gaylor theories. But if you are interested, let me know and I can give you some background on my favorite "gaylor" songs, New Romantics and Right Where You Left Me.

Veronica Romero

I lost my mother last December and this song speaks to me.

Leonara McNeal

Like a Daisy Chain hahah

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

There are always exceptions to everything. Luckily theirs was a good one and made you <3

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

hahah I didnt know

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

my Reputation Stadium tour reaction comes out sep 2nd

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I agree!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

SO it wasnt popular?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Its sad when people feel the need to have YOUR choices be the reason for their own choices and believes in life.

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

my Reputation Stadium tour reaction comes out sep 2nd

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

hahaah! I'll be sure to tell him

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

1989 comes in october with Taylors Version and then my reaction

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Was he then supporting her choice to use the pseudonym by not telling the truth?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

1989 will come out right after her release of the Taylor Versio in october

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

One of the beautiful mysteries of Taylors lyrics

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Question...? to me sounds like she's the other woman. And she's asking about how his relationship is with his partner....

Kristen J

Also Maroon is such a fan favorite in my opinion so it’s funny that you don’t think it’s a hit. Haha

Samantha Ubaldo

The marks on her collarbone are hickeys.

Samantha Ubaldo

I was thinking the same! I feel like rep and lover are the most similar in terms of the vibes and styles Audrey was drawn to on this album, like almost a mix of the two?

Even a Frozen Heart Can Melt

I was listening to your commentary about the ags gap relationship. And it's interesting because I both agree with you and had parents who were married 35 years. My mom was 33 and my dad 20 when they got together. They were together until he died. And they had what I think was a healthy relationship althoigh now that I am older....I wish I could ask him questions.

Meghan

"NO more crying" as you queue up bigger than the whole sky

Meghan

I was thinking baroque but you're probably right here

Meghan

i LOVE watching your taylor reactions! i'm most excited for you to react to evermore and reputation mostly because they are complete opposites but both so amazing, evermore is my fav album currently

Jasmine Lambert

Hey I know this comment 🤔

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I'm about to turn 40 and when I see kids like that I think "If I was still a teenager I would have found him cute" or "If I was 20 years younger, maybe". I've had a couple of age gap relationships in my time and they didn't work out. Nothing illegal or creepy, though, lol The funny thing is though people always think I'm several years younger than I am. So, I tend to attract mostly guys younger than me. Which leads to awkward situations and having to explain I'm way too old for them lol

Jennifer Lawrence

That whole thing is very convoluted with all of the online fandom stuff with Taylor that is becoming more mainstream because of her level of fame. It wasn’t really backlash from the LGBTQ community. It was backlash from the part of Taylor’s fandom (that are all of different sexualities and gender identities) who heavily speculate that Taylor is gay and get mad and scream that she’s a queer baiter whenever she says or does anything that contradicts their theories about who she is.

Elizabeth

Midnights is def one of my FAVORITE albums, love the 70s vibes. Much of the music has very cool lgbt nods and themes as well like in lavender haze, question…?, vigilante sh*t, and maroon! Such a different sound for her too, loveee it 💕

Sophie

I loved the video, I think bigger than the whole sky is about an angel baby, not necessarily hers maybe about a friend

Marie Nielsen

she reacts to it at the end :)

patrick

Oh nooo! You forgot ‘Maroon’ which is one of my favourites off of the album, haha. Loved the reaction. Taylor never misses with her amazing art. 😃

Jonesy96

pausing to say how over the moon i am that someone has FINALLY recognized Glitch as the top tier bop it is, the Glitch fanclub feels very lonely sometimes 😭

marisol

Go David! He's the best (other than Audrey)

Jay Johnston

Last comment I promise, I just finished (I know it took me forever, people kept wanting to talk to me) I resonated so much with what you were saying during :You're Losing Me" so much. I was in an almost 5 year relationship where we were engaged for 4 of those years. We got together 3 months after my 17th birthday and a month before his 18th. We did grow a lot together. He was there for the beginning of my medical transition, even gave me my first shot of T, and I was there as he was figuring out his gender identity. We worked through trauma together and taught each other how to stand up for ourselves and not just other people. However we also grew to want different things out of life though and the last few months felt like we were bashing our heads against a wall trying desperately to make things work. Finally I just sat us down and ended things the day before exactly 2 months before we hit 5 year. It was really difficult and we took some time apart after to adjust to not being in a relationship anymore but he's still one of my best friends. Right afterwards I ran into a friend and when I told her that me and my ex broke up she was upset saying our relationship is what gave her hope that relationships work and there were other friends who felt like they had to chose sides even though it was a fairly mutual break up and we were still friends. It sucks so much to be in that kind of position

Jay Johnston

All Taylor's album's have different styles you should react to her Reputation Album it's Electropop and has some real aggressive songs it's soooo good.

Gigi

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the backlash Taylor got from some of the LGBTQ+ community for Lavender Haze The context being that there were members of the community that felt like Lavender Haze was queer baiting because the term lavender haze was a common phrase for lesbians/sapphics who were coming out. Honestly I found the backlash she got to be bullshit cause its also a common phrase for just being in love

Jay Johnston

Yes Danny you totally are Ken! /jk love you Danny

Shani Gribben

Listening to your thoughts about You’re On Your Own Kid makes me feel like you are going to love a certain scene from Barbie!

Shani Gribben

Nobody really knows what bigger than the whole sky is about. There’s a lot of theories but that it what Taylor likes. She writes about her experiences but in a way that people can relate it to their own experiences. I think the broadest explanation is that it’s about someone or something that died young. It could be about a miscarriage which makes since with the opening line because when you have a miscarriage you take tests after and watch the lines fade or the word pregnant or yes go away. It could be about one of her friends who dies young she has a couple of friends who died tragically. It could also be about the death of her innocence. She references the loss of her self with traumas or relationships she’s been through in many different songs. And the loss of her old self is something I think that haunts her a lot.

Elizabeth

Keep in mind this is only a fan theory and massively believed to be untrue by the majority of the fan base. It makes more sense the way Taylor actually described it herself a collection of music she wrote during random nights spanning her career.

Monica Torres

You have to do Reputation soon! I think you would really vibe with it given the songs you were drawn to on Midnights 😁

Kassandra Y

Shout out to the real MVP (well besides Audrey) = THE EDITOR !!! XD

Ju

So essentially how this album has been reinterpreted with 'recent' events and proper context is the breaking down of a relationship. Joe and Taylor were content when her reputation was in the trash and she was hiding from the spotlight and during covid, but as she resurged in popularity, it seems that their interests no longer aligned. He preferred not to be in the spotlight (this can be seen in bejeweled) whereas she loves it and has said herself she needs it. But it actually makes the album quite sad when you realize it was about how things were falling apart with Joe. But also, this was a concept album, which is why there's different types of songs. The album is about sleepless nights she's spent ruminating over fame, Joe, anxiety, self-criticism, revenge fantasies, etc. Vigilante Shit is about Scooter who bought Taylor's music and allegedly she gave his ex wife proof that he cheated on her. You should totally listen to Lover. False God is such a jazzy song with the sax.

Mia

She wrote Sweet Nothing with Joe Alwyn her recent ex of 6 yrs. It’s like bittersweet whenever I remember that cause it feels like one of her top sweetest songs along with enchanted. The piano version is so fucking cute too cause I would want that if I ever had a wedding 🥺

Valerie

Still on the 3rd song and *laughs in Manitoba where it often snows on beaches*

Jay Johnston

the 3am tracks are essentially bonus tracks, you're right! there's a repeated lyric in bigger than the whole sky that says "i'm never gonna meet what would've been, could've been, what should've been you." that's why you're confused i think dear reader is supposed to be talking to the audience, like you originally said, so the "guiding light" she's talking about is herself. she says "you (the audience/fans) should find another guiding light"

Nicole M

I’m here for all the Taylor content 😅 so…. Red (Taylor’s Version) All Too Well short film Taylor’s artist of the decade performance from the 2019 AMAs Taylor’s Grammy performance of All Too Well Taylor’s live performance of We Are Never Ever Getting Back together from Sydney Taylor’s live performance of I Did Something Bad from the 2018 AMAs Taylor’s Tiny Desk session Taylor’s Grammy Museum performance.

Caitlin Green

I always appreciate your emotionally vulnerability in these reactions, thank you for sharing everything with us!! Taylor Swift has hit sooo many emotional points for me over the years so it’s nice to see I’m not alone in that regard.

Tiffany T

this album 1989 and red are my 3 favorite albums by her.

Jenny

• I think the design style you were looking for in Bejeweled is Art Deco (1920s, Great Getsby kinda style) • Machialvelli was an Italian philosopher and author who's the namefather of Machiavellianism, a (political) theory, saying that any means are permissible for the attainment or maintenance of (political) power, regardless of law or morality. And as you can guess has quite the negative connotation. If someone is described as machiavellian it usally means that they don't really bother much with morality and that decepetion and manipulations come natural to them. Just a basic wholesome person... 😉 • High Fidelty is a 2000s movie with John Cusack and Jack Black • Cats are not only purring when they're happy but also when they're stressed to calm down and for pain control. And the vibration it causes is actually self-healing as it stimulates the cat's muscular system and cell formation so wounds and even fractures heal faster

Viola.S1

Karma is all the good things the universe is bringing to her (her boyfriend, her cats), but it’s also all the bad things happening to the people that have wronged her (Kim and Kanye, Scott Borchetta, Scooter Braun etc) “Karma’s a relaxing thought, aren’t you envious that for you it’s not?” She’s just getting on with her life and minding her own business, not trying to start beef and just letting Karma handle it

Liam Mcfarlane

She listens to the original Karma plus all the bonus songs at the end

Wanda Smith

EDIT: THANK YOU DAVID, you're the best☺️ (i hope this comment boosts your ego, you deserve it man :D) Man, when I started watching your reaction I didn't knew I would get a whole therapy session inclusive. Most of the stuff you talked about, about your disorder and everything, was so tough to watch as I have a lot of the same symptoms as you, with drifting away as soon as someone raises their voice or just anything. I'm so happy you have Danny and that you two can/did work it out. I sadly don't have anyone so I go through most of my hard days alone.. feel like that did made me stronger tho. But tbh it would be nice to have someone next to me on this journey tho. Anyway I cried a lot during this video and mostly because of how relatable stuff that you said was😅 Speaking of Danny though, what you said during Mastermind - aaaaagh, so cute!! You two are so perfect together and I'm so happy you were mastermind-y enough :D You also made me appreciate the album a lot more. I always liked it but hearing your thoughts on every song, I honestly like the album way more now! Anyway, speaking of the album: I totally agree with you on Question..?, it's nothing special imo. "The mark they saw on my collar bone" in Maroon is describing a hickey :D Karma is indeed much much better as the normal version, I HATE the feature with Ice Spice. Many swifties do, actually. It just doesn't flow right and some added lines are cringe ("facts" for example...🤢) Bigger than the whole sky however is my absolute favorite song on this album (i do like songs i can cry too, and while listening to it for the first time I cried so hard, cause a few months before my soul-cat (soulmate cat) passed away being only 4 years old, so that totally fit in my situation😅 it's rumoured to be about a miscarriage which i dont think its true, its also rumoured to be about Taylors younger self before the fame.. all I know that its a hauntingly beautiful song Aaaand You're Losing Me... ugh. This song hurts so much, no matter how many times I listen to it. It also has some callbacks to other songs or moments between Taylor and Joe. "As I tried to be the bravest soldier, fighting in only your army, front lines don't you ignore me" traces back to the great war. "How long can we be a sad song..." Taylor and Joe were known for writing break up songs together (i however can not think of one at the moment😅) so she's asking him how many songs break up songs they can write until they're too far gone and it gets too real. And yea, her heartbeat.💔 god this song is so so sad Anyway, here we go with the easter eggs in ther MV's (at least that I can think of at the moment) Anti Hero: Not that many easter eggs that you don't already know of, but one I always liked which is actually in the song itself is, that almost at the end of the song, she sings "everybrody agreesssss", like she pronounces the S super long. It's because people called her a snake for so long and that's kind of a hint to it... i hope that made sense😂 Karma: I don't know if it counts as easter eggs, but most of the scenes are colored like her albums. The first scene with the gold statue is like Fearleas, gold Her being a demon thing is reputation Ice Spice in that shell is RED Her in that hour glass with the purple sand - Speak Now. Her laying on her cat (which I'm pretty sure it could be her cat Meredith), her make up reminds of Wildest Dreams MV, so - 1989 The scene with her and Ice Spice and the moon and the saturn, both folklore and evermore (also, in "seven" she sings, "love you to the moon and to saturn", so thats an easter egg) Both of them being on the boat and the water being pink - Lover I dont know about her being this huge light bulb tho... In the end with the coffee and the clock and it showing 12 o'clock is kinda so symbolize the Midnight era being over... at least thats what people speculate Bejeweled: when she's in the elavator, the numbers having the same color as her albums and she pressed the third button (her third album Speak Now) which was a easter egg that her next rerelease was Speak Now. Also at the end with the castle, you can hear an acoustic version of Long Live and, obviously, the dragons that got mentioned in the song ("I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you") anyway sorry for the long post :S

patrick

This is the first time I heard about that Cory rumour on BTTWS. Its usually the rumor about a miscarriage (which i also don't think its true)

patrick

The Prince in Bejeweled is Jack Antonoff, her producer and friend, you seen him in the long pond sessions. I heard rumours about Bigger than the Whole Sky being about Cory, but I also know a lot of people who've been through miscarriages relate to this song. Not saying that's what happened to her, just the words resonate with a lot of people who have suffered that loss. As soon as you finished The Great War and then said no more crying, I was like uhoh....wait until the next song. Midnights is honestly one of my favourite albums from Tay Tay. It's a beautiful album and just so very her. I also seen a rumour that Taylor and Joe are back together, whether that is true or not I'm not sure. As long as both parties are happy! Also, I agree with you Audrey on the whole age gap thing. I'm almost 32 myself, next month actually and I work with people that are 18 upwards and they might spot someone and be like oooh he's hot and I'm like eeeh he's a child, you go for it but not me thanks 😂

Leanne W

April 29th is the date This Is What You Came For by Rihanna and Calvin Harris was released. Taylor and Calvin were dating at the time and co-wrote the song together however she used a pseudonym so as not to overshadow the song. When the song was released, Calvin did an interview where he was asked if he and Taylor would ever write together and he said something along the lines of “Oh no, I just don’t see that happening” (while promoting the song they wrote together and that her backing vocals are featured on). A couple of days after this, Taylor was spotted at the Met Gala dancing with Tom Hiddleston (who she ended up having a brief fling with) but that was the night she also met Joe (her long term boyfriend of 6 years)

Liam Mcfarlane

also whenever you get the chance you should react to the eras tour (which people have uploaded the full concert on youtube) along with the 1989 and speak now tour movie and all of taylor's music videos because they are amazing and from 2019 until now her videos have been directed and written by her!

Katie

TW for Bigger Than The Whole Sky: I don’t know what Taylor wrote this about, I don’t know what her experiences were or whether this is even about her experience (it could be a friend/family member or it could even be fictional like Folklore/Evermore) however whenever I listen to that song, as someone with friends and family who have experienced this, it makes me think of the loss of a pregnancy. “You were more than just a short time” “I’m never gonna meet what could have been, would have been, what should have been you”. The second verse sounds very much like a person trying to find a reason why this happened and sometimes there just isn’t a reason, things just happen and there’s nothing we did to cause it or that we could have done to prevent it. Again, I’m not saying this is what Taylor wrote it about because I don’t know her life, but when I hear this song that’s where my mind goes

Liam Mcfarlane

bigger than the whole sky is rumored to be about her brief rumored relationship with cory monteith (along with mine from speak now which is also about him). you're losing me (which the heartbeat is taylor's actual heartbeat which she first did in wildest dreams from 1989) is rumored to be about joe, her boyfriend of almost 7 years and they broke up in april this year. this song was released on a cd that you could only get at the eras tour end of may. and he was so used to the taylor reclaiming her reputation and being with during the pandemic that he wasn't used to being with her and take risks with her while she is no longer hated and is in the peak of her fame outside of her comeback and the pandemic. maroon is rumored to be about jake gyllanhaal who she dated back in 2010 and he really messed her up hence all of the red metaphors and she has an album called red which features a song which you should definitely react to called all too well which has a shortfilm for the 10 minute version of it.

Katie

I haven’t finished yet but it looks like she’s doing everything. 3am, Til Dawn and Late Night

Liam Mcfarlane

Haven’t watched yet! Just got the notification and cheered. I’m excited.

Dannie
