One last thing 🤣 Taylor Swift dated Taylor Lautner and they broke up, but now Taylor Lautner is married to a different Taylor and her name is also Taylor Lautner. So there's three Taylor's and they re-created that Spider-Man meme where they all point at eachother. I just can't get over how the universe seems to work when it comes to Taylor Swift. It's all just something out of a storybook

I finally watched this; it took me a long time to get the time. I was waiting for Haunted, When Emma Falls in Love, and Timeless because they surprised me (at how much I loved them). The funny thing about Taylor is that vocally, she doesn't have an amazing, wow, once in a generation type voice. That's not why she sells albums, right. She's got a nice voice and it does really well with her stylistic choices and she can definitely sell a song and some of them are so good - I fell in love with that 20 second clip of Out of the Woods just from the documentary- but for me, and in her own words in Miss Americana, the hook of Taylor is the lyrics and storytelling and when she does it well, she's really the best. She has very few contemporaries in that way. And it's fascinating how she can make her lyrics fit a country song or a pop song or a rock song depending on what she's trying to convey.

Haunted: Don't know who it's about but it's one of my favourites. I love the rock sound, the instruments and Taylor's earlier live performances of this song is a full on theatrical performance. It's so dramatic and I love it.
Last Kiss: About Joe Jonas. "That July 9th" is a reference to that date in 2008 when Taylor went to see the Jonas Brothers perform in Dallas, Texas. Taylor recently said she thinks it's the saddest song she's ever written.
Long Live: A love letter to her fans and her band/crew, most of whom have been with her since the beginning.
Ours: Don't know who it's about. "Don't you worry you pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine" is one of her most quoteable lyrics.
Superman: Some fans think it's about John Mayer. It's definitely not one of her more popular songs. Sidenote: The line "He's got his mother's eyes and his father's ambition" reminds me so much of Harry Potter.
Electric Touch featuring Fall Out Boy: It's also my least favourite song from the vault, even though I love both Taylor and FOB.
When Emma Falls in Love: Rumored to be about Emma Stone, one of Taylor's best friends. Sidenote: "When Emma falls apart and when she's alone, she takes on the pain and bears it on her own" hits hard.
I Can See You: Don't know who it's about but its sexual atmosphere is reminiscent of Dress on Reputation. During the time it was written it would have been a rather new and fresh sound from Taylor.
Taylor is now good friends with Taylor Lautner and his wife, who is also not only called Taylor but Taylor Lautner too since she took his name (maiden name is Dome). I know, it's confusing! Taylor Lautner (the ex) stars alongside Joey King and Presley Cash in this video. Joey and Presley starred in the MV for Mean back when they were kids. During a concert at the Eras Tour the night the MV was released Taylor brought them out on stage.
There are tons of easter eggs in the video. The most obvious one being that Taylor is literally locked in a vault with Speak Now TV. She escapes with that album but looks back because she has to leave the original album behind. It ends with them leaving on a 'getaway car' (a song on Reputation) to what appears to be New York. The interstate says 1989 TV which is so far the biggest hint that that album is next (Taylor had moved to NY at that point and the album has a song called Welcome To New York). All the outfits are Taylor's outfits from her MV, tours and performances, including the one she is wearing (not all of them are from Speak Now but that's because she still has 3 albums left to re-record). There is also a piano and a balcony from the Speak Now tour (Love Story). 13 is her lucky number and the lyrics on her left arm say "I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you" from Long Live. July 9th is a reference from Last Kiss. The dress Joey and Taylor L are looking at in the video is the dress Joey wore in the Mean MV. Also Joey hits a security guard with the banjo Taylor had in the video. Taylor L's fight is reminiscent of an SNL skit he did when he showed what he wanted to do to Kanye after the VMAs. There's more but those are the main ones.
Castles Crumbling featuring Hayley Williams: My personal favourite from the vault. It's so beautiful yet sad at the same time. The way Taylor says "Never wanted you to hate me" is heartbreaking. It's at least partially about Kanye. “Used to chant my name, now they’re screaming that they hate me” hints at the moment people booed Kanye for stealing her moment at the VMA's 2009. As you saw in Miss Americana, she thought the people were booing her. Taylor and Hayley Williams from Paramore have been friends for years, and Paramore will be an opening act for several of Taylor’s Eras Tour dates in 2024.
Foolish One: Fans think the song could be about John Mayer as the lyrics draw many parallels to Dear John. Others believe it could be about Joe Jonas as the bridge references her ex moving on with someone else like in Better Than Revenge, and it draws parallels to Mr. Perfectly Fine, which is a song about him on Fearless TV.
Timeless: About her grandparents. Taylor previously wrote about her grandmother, who was an opera singer, in the song Marjorie (her name) on Evermore. She was also inspired by her grandfather, a war veteran, in Epiphany on Folklore.

You should have a watch party for her concert videos pretty sure Fearless tour, Speak Now tour & 1989 tour are on YouTube & the Reputation concert is on Netflix. You'll see she's always loved to put on a theatrical concert instead of just standing playing guitar for a 2hr show like most other country performers but her concerts & vocals have changed so much & it's so fun to watch. Still wonder why we never got a red concert dvd/movie we got them every other era. Maybe also Folklore long pond sessions too as it's live in the studio.

I think it’s more that Speak Now is completely full of songs that are written just by her. Including a song that has a co-writer undermines that mission. So, it was Taylor's choice not to include it.

Timeless is my absolute favorite fault track (maybe of all of them)! Same with Castles Crumbling. I love Foolish One and I gotta say, I only started liking I Can See You after watching the MV lol.
And I agree with you on Electric Touch, at first I really didnt like it BUT it grew on me. Its still my least favorite of the Speak Now vault tracks but I like it much more than I did on the first listen
There's a fan theory going around, that "Castles Crumbling" was written shortly after the K*nye W*st incident at the VMA's. Taylor said that she thought people were booing her instead of him (absolutely heartbreaking to think that 19 year old Taylor thought everyone hated her). So the lyrics to CC kinda fit with that moment. Again, only fan theory but I love for it to be true.
As I said earlier about Last Kiss, the beginning is 27 seconds long which is the same amount of time the break up call between her and Joe Jonas lasted. And if that didnt destroy me already, I remember 9 years ago when my first boyfriend broke up with me and I was listening to the song I was so heartbroken and destroyed (cause i kept stalking his instagram and seeing him living his live happy, while I sit at home crying my eyes out) that I couldn't listen to the song anymore for years lol. Glad I'm able to again now, the song is so beautiful (and sad).
I totally agree with you on Superman, it's my least favorite from this album and probably one of my least favorite Taylor Swift songs in general. Idk, it never really grew on me.
And I'm sorry but I was SCREAMING! when I saw that the song popping up on google was from J*hn Mayor. I mean, what are the odds that the song was from 'this' guy in an album reaction about Taylor Swift

To explain the I Can See You music video and the song itself
The song itself is about fantasizing about hooking up with a guy who you work with
The music video is unrelated, she just wanted to do a heist video as a way to represent the fans helping her get her music back. The two girls in the video (Joey King and Presley Cash) were in the Mean music video as children while Taylor Lautner dated Taylor Swift in 2009 and she wrote Back to December about him. They're good friends now. All the costumes in the glass cases were music video costumes, tour outfits, red carpet outfits or photo shoot stuff she wore for Speak Now. The outfit Taylor is wearing while trapped in the Vault is the outfit she wore during Sparks Fly on the tour and the lyrics on her arm say "I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you" which is a lyric from Long Live (a song about her band and the fans). And yes Taylor Lautner did his own stunts.
The glass cases are also a song lyric reference to it's time to go from the album, evermore specifically the lyric "He's got my past frozen behind glass but I've got me". The ending shows her being forced to destroy the original Speak Now era and she hesitates getting in the van because it's bittersweet for her to leave her past behind. Songs she wrote as early as 12 she doesn't own anymore. It's got to be difficult.

2023-07-11 07:31:48 +0000 UTC
Ours and Superman are both about John Mayer. There's a line in Superman "I loved you from the very first day" that's the secret message in Dear John. And um, we know Ours is about him because of the tattoo lyrics and it's clearly early days of the relationship before it broke down and she realized how wrong it was.
When Emma Falls in Love does sound like Drops of Jupiter by Train which is the song you were thinking of. Funnily enough, Taylor wrote a song with one of the guys from Train called Babe.
The reason why If This Was a Movie is missing from Speak Now Taylor's Version it's because it has a co-writer. So she instead re-recorded it and dropped it a few months ago and has given it a home on Fearless Taylor's Version on streaming. It does not have a physical copy though.

Mia B
2023-07-11 04:26:09 +0000 UTC
She released it as a single in the 'Fearless TV' era so that Speak now TV would be 100% self written. There's some speculation that she was strongly encouraged to put it on Speak Now Deluxe version (by the label that shall not be named), even though she wanted to keep the album self written.

Timeless 🤍🤍 those pictures seem to be her grandparents. She’s got another song about her grandmother called “Marjorie” on evermore-her grandmother was an opera singer so whenever you get to that pay attention for some opera vocals, she used recordings of her grandma as part of the backing. I think timeless is MAYBE my favorite vault song she’s given us, but I also love a bunch of them off Red. Red is really where you see that she’s about to jump genres-as much as speak now stayed pretty country (with some exceptions of course) Red is a bit more of a wildcard and of course features her magnum opus: All Too Well

I have a feeling that she took it off of Speak Now(Taylor’s Version) since she had a co-writer for it and moved it to Fearless(TV) keeping SNTV a solo write album.
Annie Willow
2023-07-11 01:52:42 +0000 UTC
If you're looking for If This Was a Movie, it was dropped back when she started the tour and has the FearlessTV artwork and is almost considered part of FTV instead of SNTV. But there is a TV of it. She dropped 3 songs opening night of the tour To All of the Girls You Loved Before (vault track from Lover), If This Was a Movie, and Eyes Open (from The Hunger Games soundtrack).
As for July 9th, you already heard the line for it in Last Kiss: that July ninth, the beat of your heart. The song is also where the 1:58 comes from as well. Taylor likes to leave little easter eggs.
Mia

Taylor Lautner did all of his own stunts in the video, there’s a video from an appearance on SNL we he jokes about what he should have done to Kanye at the VMAs and the fight choreography basically lines up with this video 😂
The storyline for the video is basically “Speak Now Taylor is trapped in a museum with all of the costumes from that era. Lautner, Joey King and Presley Cash come to rescue her (She dated Lautner and wrote Back To December about him, Joey and Presley were in the Mean music video). At the end when she looks back at the burning building there’s relief that she escaped but also a sense of pain that she had to destroy her past just to be free.”
Also, my claim to fame is that this music video was filmed in my hometown of Liverpool UK 🙌🏻

All of the “From The Vault” songs on this album are such bops. My favorites being “When Emma Falls In Love” and “I Can See You.” The music video that Taylor released for “I Can See You” stars Joey King, Presley Cash (who were both in her video for “Mean” all those years ago) and her ex-bf Taylor Lautner (who the song “Back To December” is about). Her song “ Castles Crumbling” is about when the VMAs happened and everyone was booing K*nye and she thought the audience was booing her.

Long Live is a love letter to her band and her fans. It’s about how she won Album Of The Year for Fearless (the album before this) and critics were saying it was undeserved but she didn’t care because she was just having fun (The cynics were outraged, screaming “this is absurd”, cause for a moment a band of thieves in ripped up jeans got to rule the world). It’s wild that in 2010 she thought she wouldn’t last and wrote the lines “Can you take a moment, promise me this, that you’ll stand by me forever but if, god-forbid, fate should step in, and force us into a goodbye, if you have children some day, when they point to the pictures please tell them my name, tell them how the crowds went wild, tell them how I hope they shine” and now, 13 years, 7 albums and 3 remasters later, people who listened to Long Live are bringing their kids to the eras tour 😭

Can't watch it till tomorrow morning, BUT i already gotta give you a fun fact that deeply fucked me up:
Last Kiss is about Joe Jonas.
The (instrumental)beginning of that song is 27 seconds long, the same length that the break up call between Joe Jonas and Taylor lasted.
Recently found out about it and it scarred me for life. (Sorry if my english is bad right now, i'm half asleep😂)
