perfect casting!

FUN FACT: Jane Lynch's Broadway debut was in 2013 as Miss Hannigan in Annie.

Jennifer Sauer

I love For The Longest Time, but I think the arrangers dropped the ball on this performance. Especially Marley's interjections were underdeveloped and not mixed well.

Jennifer Sauer

Sam and Artie's reactions to Ryder's confession always boils my blood more than most things on this show. But then I remember that that is the point. Glee is a lot of things, but one of the ones that goes underrated in my opinion is that they're not afraid to represent the world in all it's forms, including the ugly ones. Artie and Sam are representing real things said to people about these situations. They're not supposed to be okay; they're shining a light on the reality that victims go through when they admit what's happened. I liked that the others called them out on how terrible that is, even if they didn't do enough to impress upon them how wrong they are.

Jennifer Sauer

It gave you the nudge but YOU took the steps to speak out. I am proud of you! <3

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

When. I watched this episode for the first time a few years ago it gave me the strength to talk about all the abuse that I suffered as a young child both sexually and physically from my parents and my foster carers and it has made me a stronger person today

Keely Price

Clearly they saw their mistake and had to bring her back again haha

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I agree it's important to highlight that mindset it's out of character for someone like Sam to think like that. Plus they never show them learn that they were wrong so the message kind of fails on that mindset.

Callum

Oh my gosh totes.✌🏼Yes seriously.😁 She is effortlessly hilarious. 😆🎉

Koko

That song Sue sang it's the only one I've enjoyed from her. I funny really like her singing but this song fit her really well. More Santana is always great but it's never enough 😭 Her acting is top notch here, as usual. How the show thought of lessening her presence is insane. She's a scene stealer

Capri Zonica

Jane would have been amazing as Miss Hannigan! Ugh ! I wish I could have seen that!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

It is always incredible 🤩 when they discuss🗣️ important and significant topics even if just briefly 🏎️ in an episode. 🎬 The coolest 😎 thing about Jane Lynch, aka Coach Sue Sylvester, singing Little Girls in Glee is that in 2013, she made her Broadway debut as Miss Hannigan in Annie. 🎭 Carol Burnett, who portrays Sue Sylvester's mother Doris Sylvester in Glee, 🥤played Miss Hannigan in the original 1982 adaptation of Annie. 🎥 Additionally, they make the ideal 👌🏼 mother-daughter team in Glee. 🥤Their singing is amazing. 🎤 🎶

Geeze, this was a hard watch. There are so many layers of shame and secrecy around the topic. I can remember a few years ago watching part of a movie, and just.... so many memories hit me all at once. I was just so confused about it all. The physical reaction that I had was almost more intense then the mental one at first. And then I found out that there was at least one other family member and the guilt that comes aling with that... I'm glad they sorry of touched on that when Ryder said she'd already been caught. It does seem like so many people have had that abuse and don't talk about it. I know in my circle is fairly common. I'm a big fan of therapy and think everyone could benefit from it once in a while. I'd love to know what resources you were looking into.

ashinscribbleland

You can! At least the Tony performance https://youtu.be/xVHnP9wuj64

Rebecca Matte

Oh my god no way! She would’ve been absolutely fucking perfect for this part! Damn, I wish I would’ve seen it

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Do you know that Jane Lynch was Ms. Hannigan on Broadway? Sometime right around when this aired!

Rebecca Matte

I hear they did that because at the time, there was a rumor that Chris and Darren hated each other. 😂

Selma Jabr

For me, this is the turning point for Kitty. She’s not a big bully going forward and for once she reached out to someone to make them feel seen. Artie saying that wasn’t a surprise, but it does feel out of character for Sam. I also love the Santana storyline with her dancing and wish they kept with it in season 5. The back of this season is the weakest and my least favorite group of episodes, but I think the NY parts carry it. Also side note: they do an a cappella song, and the only guy to NOT sing is Blaine!? 😑 This is also the last time we see Isabelle and Vogue. The next time we hear about it, Kurt implies that he quit because he needed a job that payed.

Selma Jabr

I was gonna bring this up when Audrey said “she’d kill this part” I was all, just wait lol

Zach Davis

"You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" brought back memories of being a karaoke DJ in the late 80s/early 90s because literally every night there would be a group of drunken guys who wanted to sing it. Because of Top Gun. Every. Night. Usually followed by a group of drunk girls who wanted to sing "That's What Friends Are For."

Cory Stanish

I don't think Sam & Artie's reactions were inauthentic. I thought it was very true to life; there's been many times in my life that I've discovered that someone I thought was cool and had a good head on their shoulders turned out to have some really wrong-headed ideas about stuff like that. Especially when they're a teenage boy.

Cory Stanish

This is random but I love when Isabelle is on the phone talking about seating charts. She mentions both Darren and Chris which felt like a bit of a joke because Kurt is played by Chris and Blaine by Darren. I know we find out its Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky but it has alway felt like a silly nod to the actors on the show. Anyways, I loved that we got to explore more of Santana finding herself. I think the message of taking time to find yourself is so important. Not everyone leaves high school with a plan or vision of their future. Some people need time and space to figure it all out. It is also totally okay to change your mind a million times too.

Ashley

I appreciated Sam and Artie’s response. Not because they were right. They were horrifically wrong, but with the macho mindset of a lot of guys, and the media does not help matters, that is what a lot of guys think. They needed to portray what a lot of guys watching would be thinking, so that they can tear that down, and show that it isn’t correct. Being preyed upon isn’t something to high five about! If I remember correctly, Jane was just preparing to start on broadway as Miss Hannigan when this episode aired. It was a big reason they wrote that song in for her. I would LOVE to see her in that part! I love Annie!

Shannon Hartman

Thank you, Audrey, for your comments at the end. I think it was really aware and responsible of you to talk about resources for therapy because these are really sensitive topics. Appreciate you ❤️

scarr

Hated the comments from Sam and Artie, especially from Sam that is completely out of character for him. Although Artie has always been very toxic and misogynistic (Kevin's words) so i guess that just adds to his many horrible character traits... Best part of the episode was the New York storyline!!!

Gigi

Ok I gotta say something cause I totally forgot it happened, but when Ryder confessed his truth and Sam and Artie were all like, "omg dude thats so cool blabla" That's literally one of the reasons Artie is my least favorite character on glee. He always was a d*ckhead and arrogant and this scene just showed it so much. So, it also totally made sense for Artie to react this way. Sam on the other hand.. I can excuse it as, "He's a teenage boy" but yea reactions like this are completely normal for boys that age...or men in common. Its like this weird fantasy of having an older woman... you know what. Its sad, but its the truth Just glad Kitty was there for him. And glad Kitty gets some "character development" Man, i really like her as a character The New York scenes are soo good this episode! At the Ballet is such a great song and its also one of only a handful that got played full length in an episode (another one I can think of right now is As If We Never Said Goodbye by Kurt in season 2) And seeing young Santana talk with old Santana never fails to get me teary eyed❤️

Patrick Rivera

This episode was much better than the last one. I actually like that they had Sam and Artie show what would probably be a typical guy response to Ryder'a confession. They totally would be the type of guys to react like that and it shows a naivete about them as well as a conditioning of society to view women as the weaker gender and men as hyper masculine and tough and that whatever happens to them by a woman isn't considered harmful as they could stop it if they want to. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't agree with their sentiments, but I do understand that they could be conditioned to think that way by society's gender expectations. I wish they would have thrown in a scene where they both realize how hurtful it was for them to say what they said and reinforce Ryder's difficult decision to share it and affirm that his feelings are valid. Finally a reason why Kitty has such a tough outer shell is revealed and it makes so much sense. I was proud of her for reaching out to Ryder to connect with him and build that solidarity with him. She was spot on in calling Ryder out about his relationship with his catfish. Kitty and Santana share a lot of characteristics and I notice that the writers often use their characters to check other characters and reveal truths that they may not be willing to face. Speaking of strong characters with soft inner sides to themselves...Santana is another strong one who is allowing more of herself to show and I love it. She's such an amazing and layered character and I love seeing all these great sides to her come out. I love her relationship with Isabelle and I sort of wish that she would join Vogue.com as an intern like Kurt so that Isabelle could be her mentor too as you can see that they hit it off and Santana also loves fashion, so it would probably be a good fit for her too. Plus, it would mean more SJP which I'm totally on board with. I loved the last scene where Santana hugs her child self and reassures her. I've done this same type of scenario many times with clients and it's such an amazing thing to witness someone healing like that. And she just brought her own Naya flavor to the performance of At the Ballet. I'm so glad they had it just be their voices without having them dance. Such a powerful and beautiful way of presenting this number. Always looking forward to more Santana/Naya. The trajectory of her character is just so beautiful to watch over the seasons

Gemma Rivera

It's from A Chorus Line.

Mia

It felt really inauthentic for them to pick Sam and Artie to act like that. Not that it would really make sense for any of them to act that way. But it definitely felt forced. The At the Ballet song was...weird? I don't know what it's from and I feel like it only got put in because they were doing ballet stuff. Or they wrote the ballet stuff specifically to add in that song. Good singing but I never enjoyed the actual song especially cause the story of the song didn't really matter cause it wasn't their story. (Indian cheif? What? Lol)

Cory James

Thank you for opening up to us Audrey. It is so brave of you. It's true that molestation/SA is really common. I think almost every woman has been SA/harassed at some point in their life. And a lot more men than we think. But I feel like we always minimise it. Like, I have "only" been harassed twice and it was really "minor" (one time my male classmate grabbed my ass and the other time a stranger kept touching my arms, back and down to my ass). But because I wasn't r*ped "it's not a big deal". We've kind of normalised it and it's not okay. Knowing how much you love Sam and Artie, especially Sam, I was really dreading this episode. But I absolutely agree with you. I think their reaction is very realistic, unfortunately. I wish they had apologised but at least Will and the others didn't condone it. Will redeemed himself a LITTLE bit. I remember people started shipping Ryder and Kitty after this episode but I was just hoping for a beautiful friendship. They related to each other and bonded because of their experience but she wasn't afraid to call him out. I get why Ryder didn't wanna let go and I also get how talking to a stranger can sometimes be better than talking to someone you know. But, like you said, he couldn't trust this person because they lied about who they were. Whereas he knew who Kitty was and she was actually honest with him. Side note: Notice how Ryder's spelling and grammar is flawless here despite the fact that he is dyslexic? 🤔 Cory actually had shot scenes for this episode but they were cut. On the episode's IMDB page there is a photo of Finn and Will: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2403605/mediaviewer/rm2930615808/ Apparently, At The Ballet was Sarah Jessica Parker's idea and she was personally involved in the making of the performance. Frida Romero (the singer from the rival glee club at Regionals) is played by Jessica Sanchez, the runner-up in season 11 of American Idol. You should check out some of her performances, she's amazing.

Heida

She sang Little Girls at Carol Burnett's 90th birthday

Jay Johnston

Jane Lynch played Miss Hannigan on Broadway right after this season of Glee ended. She was probably prepping for the role while she was filming this episode.

Wayne Joy

Ok I absolutely agree with your statement about "more Santana, yay," because she is, for me at least, one of the only good parts remaining of the show. I hate that the boys in Glee reacted that way, but sadly it's all too accurate to how people in society actually react to news like that. I do like that the show addressed the subject and I really liked getting to see Kitty in a softer, more vulnerable way. It gives much more insight into her as a character and a part of the reason as to why she is so mean to others. I like the whole storyline with Santana trying to figure out who she is and what she wants, but I have to admit the whole ballet aspect completely took me by surprise. It makes sense when I think about it though, because how else would she have been accepted onto the Cheerios if she didn't have some type of professional training beforehand. I also think this struggle is true to a lot of people, young and old. It's difficult trying to figure out what you want. I know this is true for me. I'm eighteen (turning nineteen at the end of this month) and I attended my first year of college this past year. I still have no clue what I'm going to do with my life but I know that I'll figure it out. I loved your reaction (like always), and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one :)

Gabi Rajic

I love that she got to do that after Carol Burnett played her mom. Feels like a full circle lol

Sean Silence

That was really Jake dancing during “We Will Rock You”. Jacob Artist (Just Jake) is a trained ballet dancer. He has said his parents put him in a bit of every type of dance because he had a lot of energy as a kid.

Jeremy Jenkins

Jane Lynch did very well as Miss Hannigan when she played the part on Broadway in 2013. It was her Broadway debut.

Carleen

This one is always a hard one to watch, not just because of my own experiences I had at a young age. But, also because that sort of "reaction" is so common when it's an older girl (or even one of the same age) molesting a boy. I've heard it when it comes out that a teacher was involved with one of her students how "lucky" the kid is and it's supposedly every boy's fantasy, how they wish it was them, etc. It's so gross and it's reactions like that that make it that much harder for young boys or men to open up about it. As well as the fact that males typically are supposed to be stronger (stereotypically) and could easily fight off a woman's advances if he didn't really want it. I really wish in the episode the reaction would have been addressed better. Though I'm still glad it was a subject that was brought up. As well as having it lead to Kitty showing a bit of her softer side. As well as some of what has made her into who she is. Or was as she's becoming less of the person she was when we first met her. I am still surprised by how much I ended up liking her, lol.
