you should definitely react Colorblind by Amber Riley such an amazing song

(BTW, I totally get memory loss—musically, things kind of blend for me. The 80s and 90s were clearly distinct time frames but everything since 2001 almost seems like one long blurry decade to me.)

Your short-term memory loss is endearing. 😂 I think they were all around early-20s when it started so by season 3, they'd be mid-20s. It makes sense that their voices would fill out. Some of it could also be character growth—their characters became more defined as the seasons went on. They're both vocal chameleons—that could also come into play.

Naya is mimicking Monica?

Tony Oliver

Enjoyed it as always. And Brandy and Monica have not disappeared by any means. They both have had extensive and successful careers that are still going strong today.

Naya is imitating Monica for most of this performance. Also, both Monica and Brandy have had extensive careers since this song. They actually had beef at one point and then reunited with It All Belongs To Me

As Gemma mentioned above, they had a musical director. Sometimes that will have a big impact on how they end up singing the songs. I've experienced a hell of a lot of musical directors who like to say "sing it this way" - even when it goes against everything you are as a performer.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is probably my favorite Glee Christmas song. During the recent Snixxmas livestream Amber sang the beginning of the song via video and they cut to Naya's part with a photo montage. I was in tears

This is the second song that we got to hear her actual voice on (the first was Like a Virgin and most of her parts were cut on the show - an actual crime because she sounds phenomenal on the full version). Naya was a master of impressions and would be able to do an exact copy of Monica's original performance which is what got Ryan Murphy's attention. She later told Kevin that she was frustrated when recording this song because she was doing the impression, but the musical director kept stopping her and telling her to sing it differently. Kevin later said that the part where she sang "Had about enough" was all Naya with the riffs and the attitude. They did this song live on their first concert tour and they even folded Naya into Lady is a Tramp with Mark and Amber. It was even more amazing to hear it live. Naya and Amber gave us iconic performances together and they were so close, which is why they could sing this song and act as aggressively as they did during it without coming to blows. Amber was her biggest champion and lobbied with the producers to give Naya more opportunities to sing, especially after they did River Deep Mountain High and that is how we ended up getting Valerie.

Are you doing Glee Christmas songs this year? Some of their best ones are some tracks on their Christmas albums that never got scenes in the episodes. You can find them on YouTube - I’d love to hear your thoughts on them. • God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Mercedes, Tina, Quinn, Santana and Rachel • Angels We Have Heard On High - Mercedes • Silent Night - Santana • I’ll Be Home for Christmas - Rachel • Joy to the World - Unique • Do You Hear What I Hear - Harmony and Unique

Some of Naya’s pronunciation could have been because she’d do Monica impressions and Ryan Murphy liked it so that’s how they got to do this song. Naya didn’t know how Ryan wanted her to sing it (herself or like Monica) so it could have been kind of a mix of her figuring it out
